About The Customer
Pulp Pantry, founded by Kaitlin Mogentale, is a company that transforms vegetable waste into sustainable snacks. Kaitlin, an environmental studies major, was inspired to create Pulp Pantry after witnessing the waste generated by juiceries, particularly the leftover vegetable pulp. She saw the potential to repurpose this nutritious waste into food products, leading to the creation of Pulp Pantry. The company is committed to sustainability and offers consumers better, more sustainable options in the consumer packaged goods industry. Pulp Pantry has gained recognition for its innovative approach to reducing waste and promoting sustainable living. The company has participated in programs like the Target Accelerators Program and Burt’s Bees Natural Launchpad, which have provided mentorship and support. As a female-led brand, Pulp Pantry is part of a growing movement of women entrepreneurs making a positive impact in the industry.
The Challenge
Kaitlin Mogentale, CEO of Pulp Pantry, faced the challenge of addressing the significant waste generated by juiceries, particularly the leftover vegetable pulp. This waste, despite being nutritious, was often discarded due to the lack of sustainable disposal options. Juiceries struggled with finding ways to repurpose the pulp, as it was difficult to get farmers to pick it up or to find composting services. Kaitlin, with her background in environmental studies, recognized the potential of this waste as a valuable resource for creating sustainable food products. Additionally, as a female entrepreneur in a male-dominated industry, Kaitlin faced challenges in accessing capital and gaining belief in her vision from predominantly male investors. She had to overcome the barriers of communication and perception differences, which sometimes led to a lack of belief in her vision.
The Solution
Kaitlin Mogentale founded Pulp Pantry to address the issue of vegetable pulp waste from juiceries. She began by experimenting with carrot pulp to create cookies, which led her to explore the potential of using pulp as a base for snacks. Pulp Pantry was born out of the idea to repurpose this nutritious waste into sustainable food products. The company uses ShipStation as a shipping solution, which integrates with their Shopify site to streamline order fulfillment. ShipStation allows Pulp Pantry to print labels in large batches and send orders to their warehouse efficiently. This integration enables the warehouse to fulfill orders within the day, ensuring timely delivery to customers. Pulp Pantry also participated in programs like the Target Accelerators Program and Burt’s Bees Natural Launchpad, which provided mentorship and support, helping the company grow and expand its reach. These programs offered valuable resources and connections, allowing Pulp Pantry to navigate the retail space effectively.

Improving Vending Machine Profitability with the Internet of Things (IoT)
The vending industry is undergoing a sea change, taking advantage of new technologies to go beyond just delivering snacks to creating a new retail location. Intelligent vending machines can be found in many public locations as well as company facilities, selling different types of goods and services, including even computer accessories, gold bars, tickets, and office supplies. With increasing sophistication, they may also provide time- and location-based data pertaining to sales, inventory, and customer preferences. But at the end of the day, vending machine operators know greater profitability is driven by higher sales and lower operating costs.

HEINEKEN Uses the Cloud to Reach 10.5 Million Consumers
For 2012 campaign, the Bond promotion, it planned to launch the campaign at the same time everywhere on the planet. That created unprecedented challenges for HEINEKEN—nowhere more so than in its technology operation. The primary digital content for the campaign was a 100-megabyte movie that had to play flawlessly for millions of viewers worldwide. After all, Bond never fails. No one was going to tolerate a technology failure that might bruise his brand.Previously, HEINEKEN had supported digital media at its outsourced datacenter. But that datacenter lacked the computing resources HEINEKEN needed, and building them—especially to support peak traffic that would total millions of simultaneous hits—would have been both time-consuming and expensive. Nor would it have provided the geographic reach that HEINEKEN needed to minimize latency worldwide.
