About The Customer
Vestel Elektronik, founded in 1984 and headquartered in Manisa, Turkey, is a leading producer of consumer electronics. The company is a subsidiary of the Zorlu Group and generates annual revenues equivalent to approximately USD 3.4 billion. Employing approximately 16,000 people, Vestel Elektronik has always considered Europe as one of its key markets and is continually monitoring the region for new trends and opportunities to extend its reach. The company aims to make the most of opportunities for growth in the region, particularly in emerging markets in countries such as Poland.
The Challenge
Vestel Elektronik, a leading producer of consumer electronics, was looking to expand into the fast-growing Central European markets. However, the company faced challenges in minimizing cost, risk, and time-to-market when opening new business units. The company's operations in Italy, Spain, and the UK were managed independently within the group, each with its own separate business processes and systems. This siloed approach was identified as costly, complex, and time-consuming, especially when establishing new operating units. Vestel Elektronik decided to create standardized business processes that could act as a template for operations in new markets.
The Solution
Vestel Elektronik, in collaboration with an expert team from IBM, designed integrated business processes supported by SAP ERP applications and managed as a service in the IBM Cloud. The company successfully transitioned business units in Italy to the new way of working and now plans to consolidate its Spain and UK operations to the same centralized cloud platform. The solution is mirrored across two IBM data centers in London and Amsterdam to ensure high availability, resilience for critical business data, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Operational Impact
  • Integrates Vestel Elektronik’s business operations across Europe on a single cloud platform, helping group companies to share best practices and boost operational efficiency.
  • Shrinks costs and eliminates management requirements by transitioning to a managed-services model—helping Europe business units to focus on core competencies.
  • Facilitates future expansion into emerging markets with re-usable templates for core business processes such as order-to-pay.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Six month implementation enabled Vestel Elektronik to meet tight deadlines for deploying SAP ERP applications in the cloud.
