Centrica Connected Homes - Amazon Web Services Industrial IoT Case Study
Centrica Connected Homes
With the acquisition of hardware and platform partner, AlertMe, in 2015, Centrica Connected Home was faced with the prospect of a significant shift in focus. Previously the relationship had been one of vendor-customer with AlertMe also pursuing it's own goals for expansion and licensing of its software. After the acquisition, Centrica Connected Home moved to quickly integrate the technical talent from the two companies and then to realign the development efforts of the teams. The new common goals of product evolution, feature enhancement and international launch, presented a number of challenges in the form of a rapid scaling requirement for their live platform, whilst maintaining stability and availability. Added to these demands on the company were an expansion into new markets, and brand new product launches, including smart boiler service and a growing ecosystem of new Hive smart home devices. They even found the time to develop deeply functional Alexa skills for their products and hence be a Smart Home Launch Partner for the Amazon Echo in the UK in 2016.

Modbus TCP to HTTP - Chipkin Automation Systems Industrial IoT Case Study
Modbus TCP to HTTP
ABC Company’s site consists of multiple industrial motors, called drives, that are used to bend wire into hangers.  Currently they use a system called File Maker to manually input inventory and job details.  Information such as job started, stopped, maintenance required, wire required, and others are all manually written on log sheets before being inserted into the main File Maker database.  The current process is slow, not in real-time, and allows for mistakes to occur in the data entry.  There are also two site locations, and for the remote site the data needs to be sent to their main site for data logging. The company is currently updating all their drives which will allow them to have all the data points available as Modbus TCP data points.  We have been asked to help the customer integrate the Modbus TCP data automatically from the drives and send it directly to the File Maker system using HTTP requests in real time.NEEDS / REQUIREMENTSA custom Modbus TCP driver to get data from the drives and push various state data and inventory information to File MakerStable hardware and/or software to be installed on both the local and remote site to gather, store, and transmit the dataNeeds to be scalable and efficient

Breaking Ground in Smart Agriculture - Synapse Wireless Industrial IoT Case Study
Breaking Ground in Smart Agriculture
Semios Technologies decided to create a product that radically changes how orchard growers handle pest control. The key to the product is the use of new pesticide-free pheromones. To turn this idea into reality, they needed to create a system that could sense where the pests were breeding and automatically dispense the pheromone-based pest control in response. Semios realized their largest challenge would be getting a system that worked in an environment with no dedicated power and where wireless signals needed to travel through the hundreds of acres of dense foliage. That is where SNAP-based technology from Synapse provided the answer.

Machine Condition Monitoring for a Caribbean Resort - Advantech B+B SmartWorx Industrial IoT Case Study
Machine Condition Monitoring for a Caribbean Resort
A Caribbean resort has numerous buildings spread out across a scenic campus. One of the company's most important concerns is reliable air conditioning, as guests will be very upset if they are uncomfortable. Downtime is not an option. But if air conditioning equipment fails completely - a compressor, for example - the replacement has to be shipped in from another country at an inflated price. The resort realized that closely monitoring their equipment would enable preventative maintenance, and greatly extend the useful life of their air conditioning systems. But how do you monitor things like pumps and compressors when they have no network interface and they are scattered across a very wide area?

Automated Headcounts Brings Security for Ferrero - Litum Industrial IoT Case Study
Automated Headcounts Brings Security for Ferrero
Accounting for more than 1200 personnel, as well as visitors, at any given time is an arduous task, and even harder in the chaotic environment of an emergency. Every second counts when it comes to the safe evacuation of individuals in such events.Ferrero needed a way to confirm that all its employees could be safely accounted when an emergency evacuation was underway. The manual method had gotten out of date -- tracking each individual through manual counting was time-consuming and introduced potential for errors. Even if all personnel appeared at the dedicated mustering points, the employee roster for any given day could not be accurately obtained, especially when visitors were also in the building.Ferrero takes safety for these employees seriously and was recently seeing a solution that leveraged the latest that technology has to offer. The company’s internal audit system requires employee headcounts fast. After all, seconds can be critical when an emergency takes place and people need to be accounted for.

Green Technology Deployment - Wavetronix Industrial IoT Case Study
Green Technology Deployment
Incheon City’s transportation agency needed a traffic management system that could keep traffic moving by identifying areas of congestion and offering alternative routes to drivers. The goal of the system was to reduce the societal costs associated with traffic congestion as well as the pollution caused by vehicle emissions. “Incheon City officials are committed to reducing pollution,” says David Lee, who represents Wavetronix in South Korea. “The catchphrase here is ‘low carbon monoxide and green traffic systems.’”Incheon City has a population of more than 2.6 million and is home to South Korea’s largest airport and largest western seaport. These factors result in a large and unpredictable stream of traffic on the city’s roadways, and the heavy congestion has led to inefficient roads and high levels of air pollution. Because traffic flow through the city can alternate in unpredictable patterns, traffic engineers need real-time traffic volumes, lane occupancy and per vehicle speeds in order to determine when and where alternative routes should be made available. This detection is required 24 hours a day, seven days a week and must run efficiently with little downtime in order to keep these unpredictable traffic flows moving smoothly. Because the city is often covered in fog, video detection is rendered unusable; inductive loops, while accurate in fog, require extensive and expensive installation and maintenance. This efficiency became especially important as Incheon City prepared to host the 2014 Asian Games, which were expected to cause even more traffic, especially at the airport and on the newly-completed, 13 mile (21 km) Incheon Grand Bridge, which offers another route between Yeonjong Island, where the airport is located, and the mainland.

Maximize Fastening Tool Effectiveness and Save Money with Manufacturing Execution System Control
Given the vast array of manufacturing fastening tools and assembly line device products available on the market, it can become overwhelming to identify which products you should purchase; as recommended by consultants or the tool suppliers themselves. Is it worth spending ‘extra money’ because of claims of added features and benefits? The question is, what is it you really-need to accomplish the task? What if you could purchase the most basic or cost-effective tool ‘needed’ for the job, with saved money in hand to put towards the over-all manufacturing execution system (MES) solution you really need? This is proven to be so, and fastening tool processes are a prime target application for manufacturers to improve their existing manufacturing operations (upgrade), or for new project specification; please consider the following.
