CAT M1 custom antenna for asset trackers - Industrial IoT Case Study
CAT M1 custom antenna for asset trackers
In the summer of 2018, Viatrax started a new LTE design project for their new GPS Tracker for LTE Cat 1M. Radientum was chosen to design the multiband antenna for the device. Despite the challenges, the product came out as a success. The GPS tracker itself was designed by an engineering company Device Solutions based in Morrisville, North Carolina. Device Solutions and Radientum worked closely in liaison to deliver Viatrax with the best possible result. When starting the project, Viatrax engineers were pondering whether they should locate the antenna on the circuit board itself or create a trace antenna. The latter was a better, but at the same time more difficult task.– Everyone agreed it was going to be a challenge. We discussed with the folks at Radientum and they said they guarantee it will work. If not, they wouldn’t have charged us for the work, Viatrax Automation CEO Mike Webster says.–  Radientum went back and forth with our design people to make adjustments. It turned out they did a really good job and the trace antenna solution will end up saving us a lot of money and parts.

BMO Automation: 90% of machine troubleshooting is done remotely
BMO Automation already used Teamviewer, a remote desktop access solution that allows you to control computer screens remotely. Rick explains why it was time to take remote access a step further: “We noticed that we wanted more insight into our system. To not just look at what’s happening on the screen, but also in the robot, in the security systems and in any safety control systems.” This would give BMO the opportunity to not just solve problems for their customers, but to help them with many other questions. The search for a remote access solution started when BMO asked themselves how they could speed up their ability to help customers with questions, issues and innovations. “That eventually led to the realization that VPN remote support would be the best solution,” says Rick.

Securing a Large Data Center in the EMEA Region: An IoT Case Study
A leading data-center operator in the EMEA region, with multiple facilities spanning over 25,000 square meters, faced significant security challenges. The operator experienced interruptions in their internal IT network due to unsupervised work of third-party technicians. Despite having a high-end building control system that provided 24x7 monitoring and control to all the building’s infrastructure, the data center was vulnerable from a cyber perspective as it was connected to the IT network infrastructure. The operator launched an urgent OT cyber security project that included both IT-OT network segmentation and OT network asset mapping and anomaly detection. The main objectives were to harden the security of the server systems, secure the facility’s power supply and server cooling system, strengthen the segmentation between building and operational systems, create a visual OT network map, and set up a system for presenting supply-chain attacks that may threaten the data center through equipment vendors’ maintenance activities.

Managing and Mitigating Risk - Industrial IoT Case Study
Managing and Mitigating Risk
Czarnikow is wholly reliant upon business information management to support its global operations. The combination of manual and unstructured office based processes lacked the control, clarity, efficiency, security and governance required within the business.Information flow across the business and its counter-parties was handled through custom spread sheets, email (both user mailboxes and Microsoft Exchange public folders), Word documents and specific business function systems such as Infor SunSystems FMS for accounting and Allegro for trading/shipping. A lack of flexible and compliant process management in trade registration, credit risk and counterparty on-boarding was leading to unacceptable levels of risk in day-to-day operations. This was increasingly threatening operational capability and failing to support the strategic growth plans of the business. The business issues included:• Too many manual, cumbersome processes with inconsistent hand-offs and duplication of data entry • Pre execution enforcement of internal compliance procedures, ensuring adherence to external regulations with improved reporting and transparency • Manual processes and retrospective visibility were leading to unacceptable levels of operational risk • Inability to delegate authority across the business due to insufficient auditability and control • Limited visibility and accessibility of real-time, accurate management information to inform business decisions • Lack of global standards in compliance processing

Making Landfills Safer - Synapse Wireless Industrial IoT Case Study
Making Landfills Safer
While we not often think about it, the breakdown of matter in landfills potential produces methane and hydrogen sulfide gases. These gases present a risk of explosion (as they are both flammable) and hydrogen sulfide serves as a health hazard—potentially causing death if breathed in massive doses. Given the volatility of these two by-products of landfills, many local governments seek out better ways to monitor the potential production of these gases in their landfills. Moreover, seeing the needs of these local governments, Plexus Controls, a Canadian-owned designer and manufacturer of wireless monitoring and control products, decided to create a product for monitoring methane and hydrogen sulfide gases for landfills.

Modell’s Ups its Game with Self-service Data Prep
Retail is a fast-paced business. To stay competitive, organizations like Modell’s must react quickly to market place conditions, industry trends, and economic upticks and downturns, sometimes overnight. 20 years ago, critical sales, inventory and transactional data lived in a mainframe system that was only accessible through Lotus 1-2-3. Joe Paltenstein, now AVP, Assistant Controller at Modell’s Sporting Goods said, “It was challenging to get the data we needed out of the mainframe system and into a workable format that we could use. And with so many different types of data it was hard to extract any useful insights without a painfully slow reformatting process. We had to print out reports on green bar paper and then entered the data into spreadsheets.”
