About The Customer
A³ is a groundbreaking customer, working on Project Vahana, which aims to turn the dream of personal air transportation into an exciting reality. The project proposes to extend the freedom of flight to everyone, not just those with pilot’s licenses, by introducing an autonomous, pilotless aircraft. During the design phase of this vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft, A³ has a vast design space to explore, with different stakeholders having varying requirements. The project aims to please all stakeholders by creating a large number of virtual prototypes.
The Challenge
A³, with its project Vahana, aimed to revolutionize personal air transportation by introducing an autonomous, pilotless aircraft. The challenge lay in the design phase of this vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The project had a vast design space to explore, with designers seeking sci-fi inspired shapes, structural engineers focusing on weight, and aerodynamicists aiming for sleek, high-performance flight surfaces. The task was to create a large number of virtual prototypes to cover the design space and satisfy all stakeholders. However, achieving this with a minimal in-house IT footprint was a significant challenge.
The Solution
Rescale, a global leader for enterprise big compute on the multi-cloud, provided the solution. By offering on-demand simulation software and fast, scalable big compute resources, Rescale enabled A³ to create a vast number of virtual prototypes. This approach allowed A³ to explore the design space thoroughly and meet the requirements of all stakeholders. With Rescale's assistance, A³ was able to run thousands of simulations to achieve the optimal design for the VTOL aircraft. The solution transformed traditional fixed IT resources into flexible hybrid, private, and public cloud resources, all while maintaining a minimal in-house IT footprint.

Airport SCADA Systems Improve Service Levels
Modern airports are one of the busiest environments on Earth and rely on process automation equipment to ensure service operators achieve their KPIs. Increasingly airport SCADA systems are being used to control all aspects of the operation and associated facilities. This is because unplanned system downtime can cost dearly, both in terms of reduced revenues and the associated loss of customer satisfaction due to inevitable travel inconvenience and disruption.
