About The Customer
The client is a leading devices and services company operating in the Information Technology and Machine to Machine (M2M) industry. The company is interested in exploring opportunities in the M2M market and is considering making investments in this area. The client believes that as the M2M industry expands beyond niche verticals, efficient device management, onboarding, and Internet of Things (IoT) functions will become crucial. These functions will make more M2M services viable and will encourage more consumers, enterprises, and governments to trust and embrace M2M. The client also believes that M2M device management standards will safeguard and secure M2M devices, unlocking new service opportunities by making it easier to harmonize, simplify, and scale M2M operations to support billions of connected devices.
The Challenge
The client, a leading devices and services company, wished to carry out a market scoping and ecosystem study to validate its perceptions on the opportunities in the machine to machine market before making investments. The client hypothesized that as the M2M industry extends its focus beyond niche verticals, efficient device management, onboarding and IoT functions will become essential. These functions will make more M2M services viable and will encourage more consumers, enterprises and governments to trust and embrace M2M. M2M device management standards will safeguard and secure M2M devices. These standards will also unlock new service opportunities by making it easier to harmonize, simplify and scale M2M operations to support billions of connected devices. This has created considerable business opportunities for various devices and IT solution providers, including the client.
The Solution
Blueocean Market Intelligence was asked to identify a list of top device management solution providers in the M2M/ IoT services space from a competitive landscape point of view and provide information such as company size, revenues, list of OS types supported, industry focus and other categories around device management. The research was spread over a period of three weeks and implemented the following steps, which were structured to be aligned with the project objectives: Studied various reports on M2M device management and identified top vendors in the segment. Included both traditional AEP providers with device management capabilities and also some other leading vendors who offer M2M platforms with device management features. Developed a spreadsheet with a list of these vendors and provided company-specific details such as revenue estimates, OS supported and key customers and partners. Created a report summarizing the research findings and providing details such as the overview of each top device management vendor and their solution. Also created a table presenting a comparison of their device management capabilities within different segments.

Improving Vending Machine Profitability with the Internet of Things (IoT)
The vending industry is undergoing a sea change, taking advantage of new technologies to go beyond just delivering snacks to creating a new retail location. Intelligent vending machines can be found in many public locations as well as company facilities, selling different types of goods and services, including even computer accessories, gold bars, tickets, and office supplies. With increasing sophistication, they may also provide time- and location-based data pertaining to sales, inventory, and customer preferences. But at the end of the day, vending machine operators know greater profitability is driven by higher sales and lower operating costs.

Remote Wellhead Monitoring
Each wellhead was equipped with various sensors and meters that needed to be monitored and controlled from a central HMI, often miles away from the assets in the field. Redundant solar and wind generators were installed at each wellhead to support the electrical needs of the pumpstations, temperature meters, cameras, and cellular modules. In addition to asset management and remote control capabilities, data logging for remote surveillance and alarm notifications was a key demand from the customer. Terra Ferma’s solution needed to be power efficient, reliable, and capable of supporting high-bandwidth data-feeds. They needed a multi-link cellular connection to a central server that sustained reliable and redundant monitoring and control of flow meters, temperature sensors, power supply, and event-logging; including video and image files. This open-standard network needed to interface with the existing SCADA and proprietary network management software.

Driving Digital Transformations for Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices
Diagnostic devices play a vital role in helping to improve healthcare delivery. In fact, an estimated 60 percent of the world’s medical decisions are made with support from in vitrodiagnostics (IVD) solutions, such as those provided by Roche Diagnostics, an industry leader. As the demand for medical diagnostic services grows rapidly in hospitals and clinics across China, so does the market for IVD solutions. In addition, the typically high cost of these diagnostic devices means that comprehensive post-sales services are needed. Wanteed to improve three portions of thr IVD:1. Remotely monitor and manage IVD devices as fixed assets.2. Optimizing device availability with predictive maintenance.3. Recommending the best IVD solution for a customer’s needs.
