The Challenge
Anchor Yeast, a leading manufacturer of yeast, enzyme and speciality ingredients in Southern Africa, faced a significant challenge when one of its top customers, Pick n Pay, decided to implement a new Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) order process. The new process required suppliers to accept EDI-based purchase orders, a change that necessitated a significant shift in Anchor Yeast's existing order processing system. The company's call centre, responsible for processing purchase orders and creating sales orders, needed a solution that could seamlessly integrate the new EDI order process into their existing operations. The challenge was further complicated by the need to minimize errors, address potential price discrepancies, and maintain efficient communication with customers.
The Solution
Anchor Yeast found the solution to their challenge in Flowgear, an agile cloud integration platform. Flowgear was chosen due to its previous successful integrations with Pick n Pay and its ability to cater to diverse projects. The platform imports EDI in XML format and passes it to the SYSPRO ERP system, which then generates sales orders. The system also automatically sends text messages to stores informing them of the expected order delivery. With Flowgear, Anchor Yeast staff can easily link orders on the ERP system with a number, simplifying the process of determining ship dates. The integration of EDI orders with the ERP system also allows for easier resolution of price discrepancies that may occur with the complex pricing agreements that retailers usually have.
