The Challenge
Andy's Auto Sport, a leading provider of car body kits, operates entirely online, serving over 5,000 customers monthly from more than 20 countries. Their website is crucial to their success, with over a million unique visitors every month. However, in 2011, their website went down due to a DDoS attack. The servers were overwhelmed with requests, effectively shutting down the operation. The IT team spent about a day and a half trying to resolve the problem on their own before they looked for help. This was the second time they had been attacked, and they knew they couldn't afford to wait out the attackers.
The Solution
Andy's Auto Sport decided to seek help from DOSarrest, a DDoS mitigation provider. They quickly signed up for DOSarrest's Proxy Defense service. The DOSarrest representative guided the Andy's Auto Sport team through the process of obtaining a clean IP from their ISP, installing it on their server, initiating a DNS change to redirect all traffic to DOSarrest traffic scrubbing nodes, and cleaning the traffic to send only legitimate requests back to the server. This cleared the pile-up of requests on the server and resolved the issue. DOSarrest's Proxy Defense can often be set up in no more than 15 minutes and then stays on as full-time DDoS protection. Once the DNS change was made, the Andy's Auto Sport website was back online and functioning almost instantly.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).

Monitoring of Pressure Pumps in Automotive Industry
A large German/American producer of auto parts uses high-pressure pumps to deburr machined parts as a part of its production and quality check process. They decided to monitor these pumps to make sure they work properly and that they can see any indications leading to a potential failure before it affects their process.
