About The Customer
Atlantic Tower Services (ATS) is a full-service installation, maintenance, and repair provider of communications towers and cables based in Orlando, Florida. The company focuses on maintaining cell towers, installing and maintaining electrical generators and HVAC systems, and providing disaster recovery and site management. ATS employs technicians across 24 states in the South, Midwest, and Southwest, as well as in Alaska and Puerto Rico. The company strives to deliver excellent service to achieve preferred partner status and cultivate long-term relationships. ATS is committed to maintaining high standards of service and efficiency, which is crucial for its operations across diverse and challenging geographies.
The Challenge
Long-term customer relationships require delivering quality service fast and efficiently. As ATS grew rapidly, so did its challenges in achieving that goal. The company decided it needed a GPS-based fleet management system to improve service delivery. In 2012, ATS chose Trimble Fleet Management, a cloud-computing platform that provides visibility into day-to-day field service operations. The system helps manage areas such as speeding, driver safety, customer service, back-office administration, fuel use, and vehicle efficiency. Chief among ATS’ goals was identifying which truck is closest to a cell tower when service is needed so a vehicle can be dispatched as quickly as possible.
The Solution
ATS implemented Trimble Fleet Management, a cloud-based platform that provides real-time visibility into field service operations. The system enables field service managers to make intelligent decisions using real-time information to improve productivity, asset use, and fuel consumption. It offers current location, diagnostics, and exception alerts to help manage overall performance for fleets of any size. One of the key benefits realized was the ability to identify which truck is closest to a cell tower when service is needed, allowing for quick dispatch. Additionally, the system helped recover stolen vehicles by providing precise location data, which was instrumental in locating a stolen truck hidden in a remote area.
Operational Impact
  • Increased productivity by enabling technicians to drive directly to work sites from home, avoiding extra travel time.
  • Reduced operational costs through improved driver behaviors and fuel efficiency.
  • Improved driver behaviors by using monthly reports on idling, speeding, and other behaviors to coach drivers.
Quantitative Benefit
  • $30,000 saved from stolen assets recovered.
  • 30% reduction in fuel costs.
