About The Customer
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bangladesh is a nonprofit organization that works to help Bangladeshis overcome challenges such as gender inequality and poverty. The organization advocates in areas including governance, poverty reduction, environment, energy and climate change, disaster management, and achievement of Millennium Development Goals. Established in 1972, UNDP Bangladesh strives to maximize its limited resources – both financial and workforce – to ensure that its efforts go toward helping the people of Bangladesh build better lives for themselves.
The Challenge
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bangladesh was grappling with inefficient manual processes that were consuming a significant amount of employee time. The organization's procurement team was handling over 1,000 requests annually, with each request requiring up to 33 steps from initiation to approval. Additionally, staff had to manually update vendor information 10 to 20 times a day to ensure timely payments and service continuity. These time-consuming processes were diverting resources away from the organization's core mission of addressing gender inequality, poverty, and other challenges in Bangladesh. The organization realized the need for automated workflow processes but was deterred by the high costs associated with hiring an in-house developer or an external consultant.
The Solution
UNDP Bangladesh decided to implement Nintex Workflow 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 to automate their workflow processes. The decision was influenced by a successful demonstration of a workflow prototype built using a free trial version of Nintex Workflow 2007 and Office SharePoint Server 2007. The organization found the Nintex Workflow 2010 to be reasonably priced and easy to install with resources available on the Nintex website and Nintex Connect community site. The new system was used to automate processes for the procurement and vendor management teams, significantly reducing the time and effort required for these tasks.
