About The Customer
Barnhill Contracting Company, established in 1949, is a commercial building and infrastructure service provider operating throughout the southeastern United States. The company offers a range of services including site infrastructure, transportation, and asphalt services. Headquartered in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Barnhill Contracting Company has several statewide offices and employs over 900 people. The company is consistently ranked among ENR's Top Contractors in the country and manages an average of 90 active projects on Procore.
The Challenge
Barnhill Contracting Company, a commercial building and infrastructure service provider, faced significant challenges in managing and accessing project documents. With an average of 90 active projects on Procore, the company needed a unified system for document storage and access. Seven years ago, the company initiated a strategic project to bring control and consistency to their file systems. The existing system was scattered, with documents stored in different locations, making it difficult for executives and project teams to locate the right files. The company also faced issues with File Transfer Protocol (FTP), with teams preferring to transfer data through traditional means such as burning it onto a CD. The company needed a solution that would allow teams to collaborate on large files internally and with external parties, and securely access files via mobile devices without the need for email applications. The company initially used a project management tool that did not integrate with Egnyte and did not meet all its needs, leading to confusion and duplication of documents.
The Solution
Barnhill Contracting Company decided to integrate Egnyte and Procore to create a single source of truth for their documents. The company initially rolled out Egnyte within its Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) department, and within a few months, the entire building division migrated their files onto Egnyte. However, project-specific data still resided in two different locations that did not sync between Egnyte and Procore. To solve this, the company decided to sync Procore files with files stored outside of Procore using the Procore-Egnyte integration. This allowed Barnhill's project teams to work in the Procore environment and access the documents from a single source of truth in Egnyte. Users could leverage a common folder structure without jumping between Procore and Egnyte, making it easier for all stakeholders to access and work on the same latest version of files.

Intelligent Building Automation System and Energy Saving Solution
One of the most difficult problems facing the world is conserving energy in buildings. However, it is not easy to have a cost-effective solution to reduce energy usage in a building. One solution for saving energy is to implement an intelligent building automation system (BAS) which can be controlled according to its schedule. In Indonesia a large university with a five floor building and 22 classrooms wanted to save the amount of energy being used.
