The International Executive Service Corps (IESC) is a non-profit organization based in the United States. Founded in 1964 by the late David Rockefeller and others, IESC brings together the best of the U.S. public and private sectors to spur economic development in developing countries worldwide. The organization's work covers trade and enterprise, information communication and applied technologies, financial services, tourism, public sector, and business enablement. Although the organization has just 100 employees, its impact is significant, having completed more than 25,000 projects in 130 countries.
The Challenge
The International Executive Service Corps (IESC), a non-profit organization that spurs economic development in developing countries, was facing a significant challenge with its workflow management. After migrating from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Office 365, the organization found that the out-of-the-box SharePoint was difficult for its employees and volunteers to use. The uptake was low, and users were resorting to email workarounds to avoid the workflows, creating an audit risk that IESC wanted to avoid. This was a significant issue as the organization is largely funded by government contracts and grants, which come with stringent compliance and accountability requirements. The challenge was to find a workflow solution that was user-friendly, efficient, and could meet the organization's compliance needs.
The Solution
IESC found its solution in Nintex Workflow for Office 365. The organization adopted Nintex Workflow in 2015, starting with a relatively simple workflow for personnel leave requests. This immediately reduced the time it took supervisors to approve these requests and was well-received by executives who could approve requests easily through the Nintex interface on their phones, without needing to go through SharePoint. Encouraged by this success, IESC created a more complex workflow for contractor management, which required integration with third-party DocuSign and Taleo contractor database software. Nintex's native integration with DocuSign and web services for Taleo's REST API made this integration easy and cost-effective. Another workflow was created for invoice approval, which automated the approval process and eliminated the need for physical signatures.
