About The Customer
PODS Moving & Storage is a national moving and storage company with operations across the United States and Canada. As of early 2022, the company has completed more than six million initial portable moving and storage container deliveries. The company has a fleet of over 1,000 vehicles and employs 1,500 drivers. PODS is trusted by customers to transport their belongings safely to their destinations. The company is committed to ensuring that customers' belongings, some of which are deeply personal, reach their destination in the same condition they left in.
The Challenge
PODS Moving & Storage, a national moving and storage company operating across the United States and Canada, faced a significant challenge in ensuring the safety of their drivers and the belongings they transported. The company had no real-time data or visibility into the status of their drivers, making it difficult to engage with them actively, coach them on risky behavior, or acknowledge their performance improvements. The existing solution did not provide fleet managers with real-time data, which was a significant hindrance in case of accidents or driver injuries. The lack of immediate assistance and feedback mechanisms led to less than satisfactory driving.
The Solution
To address these challenges, PODS implemented Samsara’s AI Dash Cams across their fleet of over 1,000 vehicles. This solution provided fleet managers with HD video of on-the-road conditions, enabling them to provide real-time feedback and coaching directly to the drivers. PODS adopted the PICNIC approach, which stands for 'positive immediate consequences, negative immediate consequences,' to call out both good and unfavorable driving behavior within 48 hours of an event. Additionally, PODS used Samsara Safety Scores to quantify driving performance, allowing drivers to see the impact of changing their behavior. To incentivize safe driving, PODS offered a $1,000 quarterly bonus to its top drivers.
