About The Customer
Steel View is a Canadian energy and industrial service provider. Their fleet consists of both company units and owner/operators. The trucks at Steel View perform a variety of services, from potable water hauling to complete plant turnarounds and shutdowns. When their vehicles are out in the field, it’s important for management to be able to track locations. Steel View wanted to improve compliance, track vehicles, and work with technology that was easy for drivers to use. They were previously using another solution when they made the switch from paper to e-logs, but found it to be cumbersome when they wanted GPS and IFTA tracking.
The Challenge
Steel View, a Canadian energy and industrial service provider, was facing challenges in tracking their fleet of vehicles when they were out in the field. They wanted to improve compliance, track vehicles, and work with technology that was easy for drivers to use. Previously, they used another solution when they made the switch from paper to e-logs. However, when they wanted GPS and IFTA tracking, their former provider had to integrate with another one to get a complete solution, which the Steel View team found to be cumbersome. The software was slow and the reports were archaic, making it a pain for the team.
The Solution
Steel View turned to KeepTruckin for a solution. They started with a rollout of KeepTruckin’s gateway technology in a small portion of their fleet, and then decided to make the switch not just for the vehicles that previously had ELD technology but expand to owner/operators as well. The implementation process was smooth, with senior supervisors using the app themselves for a couple of weeks, then individually rolling it out to each driver. The new solution was found to be very user-friendly and easy for drivers to edit changes. Back-office staff also found log management to be much easier with KeepTruckin. Steel View also uses KeepTruckin for automated IFTA fuel tax reporting to drastically save time on administrative tasks and accurately calculate reports.

Transformation for IoT Business Model in Connected Industrial Vehicles
CNH Industrial wanted to put IoT-enabled viechles onto the market. Whether monitoring a single machine or integrating an entire fleet, operators are able to track the status, speed, and movement of machines and their performance and also receive alerts on issues that may require service by a qualified technician to improve uptime and overall effectiveness of the vehicle.

IoT-based Fleet Intelligence Innovation
Speed to market is precious for DRVR, a rapidly growing start-up company. With a business model dependent on reliable mobile data, managers were spending their lives trying to negotiate data roaming deals with mobile network operators in different countries. And, even then, service quality was a constant concern.

Vehicle Fleet Analytics
Organizations frequently implement a maintenance strategy for their fleets of vehicles using a combination of time and usage based maintenance schedules. While effective as a whole, time and usage based schedules do not take into account driving patterns, environmental factors, and sensors currently deployed within the vehicle measuring crank voltage, ignition voltage, and acceleration, all of which have a significant influence on the overall health of the vehicle. In a typical fleet, a large percentage of road calls are related to electrical failure, with battery failure being a common cause. Battery failures result in unmet service agreement levels and costly re-adjustment of scheduled to provide replacement vehicles. To reduce the impact of unplanned maintenance, the transportation logistics company was interested in a trial of C3 Vehicle Fleet Analytics.
