About The Customer
Canon India, headquartered in Gurgaon, has been operating in India for 10 years. The company specializes in the marketing, sales, and service of digital imaging products such as photocopiers, printers, scanners, facsimile, cameras, and projectors. Canon manages the high-end color and solutions business directly, while the consumer segment of cameras, printers, etc., is managed through a dealer network. Canon has a strong focus on distribution and channel network, with 281 channel partners, 397 retail stores, 32 Canon care centers, over 100 authorized service centers, and more than 2700 IT resellers across 300 towns in India.
The Challenge
Canon India, a leader in the digital imaging industry, was seeking a tool that could provide real-time information on product, category, and dealer metrics to help them become the number one digital imaging company. The company had a centralized data center at the corporate office, connected to all locations through a Virtual Private Network. However, the process of generating reports from Oracle applications, extracting them into Excel, and cleaning the data was proving to be time-consuming and not user-friendly. The company needed a solution that could provide relevant and right information easily to the decision-makers of the organization.
The Solution
Canon India decided to implement QlikView, a tool that would provide the real-time information that a sales company like Canon needed the most. QlikView enabled the management to see a unified view of their data coming from different data sources. The tool was deployed to 30 users of Canon across India. It helped the management to drill down the data to model level and provided dashboards and charts across hierarchy and patterns. This allowed them to view hourly refreshed data related to their domain and make necessary decisions or monitor the stock. The implementation of QlikView was completed within three months and enabled near real-time information to the users anytime and anywhere, which in turn improved the product quality and delivery performance of the users.
Operational Impact
  • QlikView provided high-level summary to detail level sales, inventory and finance (AR) data analysis through an easy-to-use, yet robust and flexible interface capable of handling multiple levels of user expertise and requirements.
  • The implementation of QlikView enabled near real-time information to the users anytime and anywhere which in turn improved the product quality and delivery performance of the users.
  • Easy-to-understand dashboards have made it easy for Canon to analyze strategies.
Quantitative Benefit
  • QlikView is currently being deployed to 30 users of Canon across India.
  • The implementation was completed within three months.
