The Customer
About The Customer
Celero is the largest credit union services provider in Canada, committed to bringing credit unions closer to the members they serve using integrated financial technology solutions. Through strategic partnerships, client collaboration, and employee empowerment, Celero aims to deliver a secure, integrated, and innovative digital ecosystem that will put credit unions at the forefront of digital leadership in the financial services industry. The company is dedicated to creating connections, enabling convenience, and instilling trust among its customers. Celero's customers are primarily credit unions, often located in small communities and rural areas, that lack the resources to build innovative, personalized digital services themselves.
The Challenge
Celero, a leading Canadian provider of integrated financial technology solutions, faced the challenge of meeting the evolving needs of its credit union customers. These customers, often located in small communities and rural areas, lacked the resources to build innovative, personalized digital services themselves. Celero aimed to modernize its IT infrastructure to help these credit unions meet their members' demands and stay competitive in a rapidly changing industry. The company wanted to initiate its digital transformation swiftly, integrating new cloud-optimized capabilities into its existing IT infrastructure without disrupting legacy systems. Celero also had a long-term goal of preparing for a future industry landscape defined by microservices and cloud-native solutions. Additionally, the company was committed to sustainability and aimed to reduce its carbon footprint by moving workloads to Equinix and the cloud, retiring on-premises data centers that weren't built using the latest sustainability innovations.
The Solution
Celero partnered with Equinix to modernize its infrastructure, supporting collaboration with large global companies and niche partnerships. Equinix's agile, software-defined interconnection solutions and cross-Canada colocation data center footprint provided the speed and flexibility Celero needed to offer a comprehensive suite of services to credit unions of all sizes. Celero began working with Equinix and its financial services experts and Global Solutions Architects, connecting with critical cloud providers and partners, including Microsoft Azure, via low-latency software-defined interconnection using Equinix Fabric. Celero migrated to an agile, scalable, and cost-effective hybrid cloud platform with Equinix's help, moving some mission-critical systems fully into Microsoft Azure. Some of its physical infrastructure was placed inside Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary, providing flexibility to use physical firewalls to support certain core workloads and use Network Edge virtual network services from Equinix for situations where physical deployments would be too costly or time-consuming.
Operational Impact
  • The partnership with Equinix has enabled Celero to provide innovative, best-in-class services to credit unions across Canada. The company now has a future-ready infrastructure with agility and resilience. The solution has also helped Celero reduce its carbon footprint, aligning with its commitment to sustainability. Equinix Fabric has streamlined the hybrid cloud migration, making physical location irrelevant and enabling Celero to interconnect with key financial services partners and cloud providers at software speed. This has allowed Celero to deliver their payment services to customers in real time, despite the challenges of operating in a vast country and serving credit unions far from major cloud hubs. The solution is completely API-driven and repeatable, allowing Celero to redeploy existing infrastructure quickly and consistently on Platform Equinix. This empowers the company to easily add or remove infrastructure components, taking an iterative approach to respond to changes in the industry.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced latency access to clouds, business partners, and services to 1-2 ms
  • Achieved tens of thousands in annual cost savings
  • Enabled service deployment in minutes, not months
