About The Customer
Drom Fragrances is a leading fragrance manufacturer founded in 1911 by Bruno Storp in Germany. The company is represented in 43 countries across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, with production sites from New York to Guangzhou. Drom sells fragrances to thousands of companies worldwide, providing oils, including bases and solutions, used to manufacture perfumes, cosmetics, personal care products, household goods, and more. The company is committed to serving its industry customers by providing the correct, up-to-date regulatory and safety information they need to do business. Drom's focus is on complying with myriad regulations and standards and providing customers with documentation and labeling so they can readily verify that its products are safe.
The Challenge
Drom Fragrances, a global fragrance manufacturer, was facing challenges in tracking and analyzing massive quantities of data from across their global organization to ensure compliance with numerous overlapping jurisdictions. The company was using seven disparate systems across different sites to collect product compliance and safety information. This process was time-consuming and inefficient, leading to potential inaccuracies and high operating costs. The company needed a centralized, global system to standardize and streamline their work processes, ensuring accuracy and reducing costs. They also needed to continue meeting the requirements of the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) Compliance Program, which requires “eco-labeling” and bans or restricts the use of 174 chemical substances in fragrance products.
The Solution
Drom Fragrances selected Sphera’s Intelligent Authoring software as part of an integrated Product Stewardship Solution. The software automates the creation of globally compliant and multi-lingual Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), labels, and hazard summary sheets, as well as documents related to transportation, inventory reports, and more. The system standardizes data automatically per country, per regulatory system, saving significant time and effort. The company also receives updated regulatory content from Sphera product compliance experts, helping them stay current on ever-changing rules and standards. Drom is also developing interfaces between the Sphera system and its new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to provide material safety data throughout the supply chain.

Improving Vending Machine Profitability with the Internet of Things (IoT)
The vending industry is undergoing a sea change, taking advantage of new technologies to go beyond just delivering snacks to creating a new retail location. Intelligent vending machines can be found in many public locations as well as company facilities, selling different types of goods and services, including even computer accessories, gold bars, tickets, and office supplies. With increasing sophistication, they may also provide time- and location-based data pertaining to sales, inventory, and customer preferences. But at the end of the day, vending machine operators know greater profitability is driven by higher sales and lower operating costs.

Advanced Elastomer Systems Upgrades Production
In order to maintain its share of the international market for thermoplastic elastomers AES recently expanded its Florida plant by adding a new production line. While the existing lines were operating satisfactorily using a PROVOX distributed control system with traditional analog I/O, AES wanted advanced technology on the new line for greater economy, efficiency, and reliability. AES officials were anxious to get this line into production to meet incoming orders, but two hurricanes slowed construction.
