CommonTime partners with arts organizations to support underserved communities, expand the scope of outreach beyond local or national audiences, and connect different cultures in a virtual space. The platform welcomes artists across all languages, art mediums, and styles.
The Challenge
CommonTime, an online arts learning platform, faced the challenge of building a platform that could empower arts educators around the world to connect and engage meaningfully with learners. The platform needed to support access to arts education for all, connecting educators and individuals to artists and arts organizations across the world. The challenge was not just to create a platform for booking art lessons and events in music, dance, theatre, and visual arts, but also to provide a space for teaching artists and arts organizations to host live interactive video lessons and get paid for their expertise. The platform also aimed to support underserved communities, expand the scope of outreach beyond local or national audiences, and connect different cultures in a virtual space.
The Solution
The solution to CommonTime's challenge was the Vonage Video API. The Vonage Communications Platform provides global performance and scale for video, voice, SMS, and social messaging communications channels. The Video API, built using WebRTC standards, made video sessions easily accessible over the Internet across web browsers, mobile devices, and desktops. This meant that CommonTime users could start their sessions without any need for downloads or plugins. The flexibility of the Vonage Video API allowed CommonTime to provide an intuitive, aesthetic experience that met the specific needs of its users. The API also enabled the CommonTime team to build a global arts community, connecting different cultures in a virtual space and democratizing access to arts education through technology and engagement.

Vodafone Hosted On AWS
Vodafone found that traffic for the applications peak during the four-month period when the international cricket season is at its height in Australia. During the 2011/2012 cricket season, 700,000 consumers downloaded the Cricket Live Australia application. Vodafone needed to be able to meet customer demand, but didn’t want to invest in additional resources that would be underutilized during cricket’s off-season.
