An Original Occasion is a renowned special events production company based in Los Angeles, California. The company is known for its fabulous themed events that have hosted American presidents and Hollywood's elite. They work on a variety of events including movie premieres, social functions, and corporate events. The creative team at the company is committed to delivering award-winning projects and relies heavily on technology to win business and deliver their projects. The company is a staple in the Hollywood events scene and is known for its ability to bring a room to life on paper, convincing clients of their capability to master their event.
The Challenge
An Original Occasion, a Los Angeles-based special events production company, was facing challenges in effectively communicating their vision to clients. The event planning industry is highly competitive and conceptual, making it difficult to convey the intended event design and details through words alone. The company was struggling to provide a realistic picture of the event, including props, decor, and lighting effects, which was causing confusion and misinterpretation among clients. This lack of clarity was affecting their proposal acceptance rate and their ability to stand out in the multi-million dollar event planning industry.
The Solution
The company adopted CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, a powerful design package, to overcome these challenges. The suite, which includes CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTOPAINT, allowed the team to create detailed and realistic illustrations of their event proposals. Starting with a photo of the venue, the designer used Corel PHOTO-PAINT to optimize the photo, improving details like its color, brightness, and size. The improved image was then imported into CorelDRAW where vector graphics of the planned elements like chairs, tables, and props were added. This resulted in an accurate image of the final look and feel of the event, ensuring that everyone could visualize the proposed end result right from the start. The suite also helped the company in creating graphics for planning and coordination, and in executing the event, even in remote locations, saving significant time and money.

Industry 4.0 at ALPLA: Enhancing Factory Efficiency with IoT
ALPLA, a global leader in packaging solutions, faced several challenges as the complexity of their production machinery increased. The need for highly trained specialists in each factory led to higher personnel costs, difficulties in recruiting experienced talent at each location, and costly personnel turnover. Furthermore, less experienced operators running the machines sub-optimally impacted resource consumption and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). ALPLA also faced the challenge of monitoring visual inspection systems in every line of their plants, which was almost impossible to do manually. In 2016, ALPLA decided to use data from the 900 different types of embedded sensors in each factory to address these issues. However, their initial choice of SQL Server as the data store for the sensor data proved inadequate, as it was unable to cope with their data requirements.

Digital Transformation of Atlanta Grout & Tile: An IoT Case Study
Atlanta Grout & Tile, a Tile, Stone & Grout restoration company based in Woodstock, Georgia, was facing challenges with its traditional business model. Despite steady growth over the years, the company was falling behind the web revolution and missing out on the opportunity to tap into a new consumer base. They were using independent software from different vendors for each of their department information and workforce management. This resulted in a lot of manual work on excel and the need to export/import data between different systems. This not only increased overhead costs but also slowed down their response to clients. The company also had to prepare numerous reports manually and lacked access to customer trends for effective business decision-making.

Novartis Leverages IoT for Enhanced Drug Discovery
Novartis, a global healthcare company, was faced with the challenge of managing and making sense of a vast amount of data. The company had decades of data on how various compounds affect protein targets, with about a billion data points in total. This historical data was critical but sparse compared to the granular data currently being collected. Novartis uses an automated process that captures high-content image data showing how a particular compound has affected an entire cell culture, generating terabytes of phenotypic data. The challenge was to combine this historical data with the burgeoning phenotypic data and place it within the larger context of ongoing medical research from around the world. The team also wanted to combine its data with medical information from NIH’s PubMed, which contains about 25 million abstracts from some 5,600 scientific journals.

Automated Headcounts Brings Security for Ferrero
Accounting for more than 1200 personnel, as well as visitors, at any given time is an arduous task, and even harder in the chaotic environment of an emergency. Every second counts when it comes to the safe evacuation of individuals in such events.Ferrero needed a way to confirm that all its employees could be safely accounted when an emergency evacuation was underway. The manual method had gotten out of date -- tracking each individual through manual counting was time-consuming and introduced potential for errors. Even if all personnel appeared at the dedicated mustering points, the employee roster for any given day could not be accurately obtained, especially when visitors were also in the building.Ferrero takes safety for these employees seriously and was recently seeing a solution that leveraged the latest that technology has to offer. The company’s internal audit system requires employee headcounts fast. After all, seconds can be critical when an emergency takes place and people need to be accounted for.
