About The Customer
GamersFirst is one of the fastest-growing companies in the fastest growing segments of the video game industry. Part of the K2 Network, the GamersFirst company portal serves more than 28 million gamers in 160 countries, offering a range of multiplayer online games as well as rich community features. The company’s Free2Play model empowers gamers by giving them the opportunity to play games totally free of charge. Unlike the traditional retail model where gamers have to take the full up-front risk of purchasing, or committing to a monthly subscription fee before playing, Free2Play gaming allows users to try before they buy. GamersFirst stands for a place that gamers of all kinds can call “home,” where they decide the price of the games — even when that price is “free.” GamersFirst is by gamers, for gamers.
The Challenge
GamersFirst, a rapidly growing online video gaming company, was facing serious issues with Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks were severely impacting the gaming experience, even preventing online play, which was costing the business tens of thousands of dollars. The attacks were slowing down games and in some cases, bringing them to a halt. This resulted in lost business and the risk of losing customers to other online video gaming sites. The sources of the attacks were typically angry and vindictive former players who had been banned from GamersFirst.com for cheating. These attackers mobilized large armies or “botnets” of hijacked computers to attack the online gaming service. At one point, the service was attacked daily over a four-month period, and an attack even succeeded in bringing down GamersFirst’s data center.
The Solution
In order to mitigate the DDoS attacks and ensure the availability of the GamersFirst website, the company turned to Corero Network Security. Corero provides effective, on-premises detection and mitigation against all forms of DDoS attack. Prior to implementing Corero’s patented DDoS defense technology, GamersFirst had to rely on its Internet Service Provider (ISP) to divert as much of the DDoS traffic as possible from reaching its network’s borders, and dealt with the rest as best it could. However, these defensive measures were reactive and had limited success. With Corero’s solution positioned on the network border, GamersFirst was able to effectively block DDoS attacks and guarantee uninterrupted play for gamers. Corero’s solution provides superior throughput, unmatched detection and industry-leading low latency. Its Three Dimensional Protection (3DP) architecture features defense against all types of Denial of Service attacks; stateful deep packet inspection and stateful firewall filtering.

Sawback IT and Datto Save Client From a Costly Mistake
Ballistic Echo, a software development house, faced a critical challenge when human error led to the deletion of thousands of lines of unique code. This incident occurred before the code was pushed to source control, resulting in significant loss of time, revenue, and work. The previous file-level backup solution they used was slow and inefficient, making it nearly impossible to manually recreate the lost work. The need for a more reliable and efficient business continuity solution became evident to avoid such disasters in the future.

Zapier Aggregates Multiple Analytics in a Single Dashboard with the New Relic Platform
Zapier, a company that enables non-technical users to push data between hundreds of web applications, was facing a challenge in automating and provisioning servers for optimal performance. The company's environment consisted of 50 Linux servers on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a Django application split across several servers, and a backend consisting of a dynamic number of celery task workers fed by messages published to a RabbitMQ cluster. They also maintained a number of internal web services on nginx in front of Gunicorn and Node.js processes. Redis handled simple key and value stores, with logging handled by Graylog2 and ElasticSearch. However, they realized that no level of automation would be sufficient without an effective monitoring solution in place. They needed a tool that could provide immediate alerts when something was breaking and could be easily implemented into their environment.

Pipeline Insight Case Study: YARCDATA
YarcData faced challenges in determining the conversion rates of prospects into customers through various marketing efforts and identifying the source of its leads. They wanted to know the percentage of opportunities in the sales pipeline that came from different marketing events, web downloads, or self-sourced sales opportunities. Additionally, they needed the ability to drill down into the data to guide where to allocate more marketing dollars based on the success of previous efforts. Previously, YarcData relied heavily on spreadsheets and Salesforce.com reports, which made it difficult to extract the exact information they needed. This reliance on spreadsheets represented about 70% of their data presentation.
