About The Customer
Surface & Panel is a magazine launched in 2003, dedicated to the panel-based furniture industry. The magazine provides a fresh perspective on the industry, focusing on how companies can leverage technology, substrates, overlays, and hardware to create successful designs and marketing strategies. The magazine's approach is based on the belief that today's markets reward only the most agile and innovative. As the borders blur in the global market, Surface & Panel aims to help its readers rise to the challenge by putting the varied materials and technologies of the industry into context.
The Challenge
Surface & Panel, a magazine dedicated to the panel-based furniture industry, faced the challenge of transitioning from a print-based business to an online media platform. The move was not just about creating an online presence, but also about replicating the print magazine's business model online. This included selling advertising space, tracking ad performance, and managing subscriptions. The magazine was filled with a variety of print ads and promotions, and the client wanted to replicate this complex structure online. Additionally, the online magazine was to be hidden behind a subscription login, which added another layer of complexity to the design and functionality.
The Solution
Clarity, the solution provider, began by reviewing the print magazine and its content. They then designed a highly modern online platform with numerous locations for sponsorships, event calendars, vendor-submitted product content, and showcased products. They also ensured the platform was optimized for search engines and content administration. To handle the variety of ad placements, Clarity created dozens of custom ad modules. They selected DNN Evoq as the CMS due to its high customizability. The design mirrored the feel of the print magazine, providing ample space for product showcasing. The final piece of the solution was to configure the search, navigation, and SEO to drive online traffic and conversions for the business.
