AMF Magnetics is an Australian company specializing in the sale of permanent or 'rare earth' magnets. Established in the early 1980s, it is now the largest supplier in Australia, offering around 1500 products. The company caters to a wide range of customers, from large B2B orders to specialist medical equipment and casual D2C customers. AMF Magnetics is committed to providing uncompromising customer service and has a complex supply chain with multiple suppliers in different locations. The company was purchased by Mark in 2006, who sought to transform it from an 'analog outfit' to a digitally advanced business.
The Challenge
AMF Magnetics, the largest supplier of permanent magnets in Australia, was facing challenges in managing its complex business operations. The company caters to a diverse range of customers, from large B2B orders to specialist medical equipment and casual D2C customers, and deals with multiple suppliers in different locations. The company's commitment to uncompromising customer service added to the complexity. Despite digitizing to some extent and using MYOB desktop software for inventory and accounting, the company found its operational processes inefficient and limiting its growth. The need for a digital transformation was evident, but the path to it was unclear.
The Solution
To address the challenges, AMF Magnetics made two strategic decisions. First, they hired an in-house marketing and IT team with modern software skills, including a new CEO with a strong background in business operations. Second, they collaborated with external experts, SMB Consultants. The new CEO, Catalina Rodríguez, led the team to transition the business from MYOB to Xero for accounting. However, they realized the need for a robust inventory management solution to complement Xero. SMB Consultants recommended Cin7 after understanding AMF's specific business requirements. A hybrid solution was developed, integrating Cin7 with Xero and building a custom integration between Cin7 and Shopify. This solution was tailored to AMF's diverse customer base and specific operational requirements.

In 2010, Ontario’s energy board mandated that time-of-use (TOU) pricing for consumers be available for all consumers on a regulated price plan. To meet this requirement, Hydro One needed to quickly deploy a smart meter and intelligent communications network solution to meet the provincial government’s requirement at a low cost. Enel Secures Italian Power Generation Network

This includes Enel, a global power company that manages and monitors the Italian power grid. There were several challenges faced:Since this data would be in the public domain, accuracy and authenticity of this data were of paramount importance. It should be able to withstand scrutiny.It is challenging to build an appliance that can withstand a wide range of voltage fluctuations from as low at 90v to as high as 320v. Since the device would be installed in remote locations, its resilience was of paramount importance.The device would have to deal with poor network coverage and have the ability to store and re-transmit data if networks were not available, which is often the case in rural India. The device could store up to 30 days of data.The platform that deals with the data should be readily available and highly reliable and never lose a packet of data.
