About The Customer
The E-470 Public Highway Authority is a political subdivision of the State of Colorado. It operates a toll highway that runs along the eastern perimeter of the Denver metropolitan area. The 47-mile beltway extends from south of Denver, around the city, and terminates at the north end of the metropolitan area. The Authority’s extensive network of far-flung facilities and toll booths needed to be integrated into a single, centralized access control system. The Authority manages coverage for a total of 129 doors across multiple facilities. The infinias system covers 34 exit ramp toll collector stations (now fully automated), four support buildings, five toll plazas, parking lot gates, and the Authority’s headquarters.
The Challenge
The E-470 Public Highway Authority, a political subdivision of the State of Colorado, operates a toll highway that runs along the eastern perimeter of the Denver metropolitan area. The 47-mile beltway extends from south of Denver, around the city, and terminates at the north end of the metropolitan area. The Authority’s extensive network of far-flung facilities and toll booths needed to be integrated into a single, centralized access control system. In late 2014, E-470 Public Highway Authority staff assessed their existing access control system with an eye toward upgrading overall capabilities.
The Solution
After considerable research, the team selected the 3xLOGIC infinias Professional access control management system. The Authority manages coverage for a total of 129 doors across multiple facilities. The infinias system covers 34 exit ramp toll collector stations (now fully automated), four support buildings, five toll plazas, parking lot gates, and the Authority’s headquarters. The system manages access for both external and internal doors at the headquarters. Dylan VanGorp, Authority Electronic Technician, and his fellow staff manage access for upwards to 450 people, divided into 37 separate access groups.
Operational Impact
  • The installation process was smooth and the system is performing well.
  • The system is user-friendly and has been well received by all users.
  • The Authority manages 444 people, divided into 37 separate access groups. Each group has different access privileges, organized by location, day, time of day, and length of access time.
  • Two-tier administration convenience: VanGorp and a colleague are the main system administrators, and they have the highest level of system access; five to six other staff are authorized to perform routine tasks on the system.
  • Expandability/Flexibility: The system is expected to expand in use over time. Anyone with administrative privileges can access the system from anywhere, at any time, as long as you’ve got network connectivity.
