About The Customer
AXT Plumbing is a plumbing company based in Yarrawonga, Victoria, Australia. The company was founded by Ashley Thomson in 2010, and Tyler Sprunt, a plumber by trade, bought into the company in 2014. Since then, the pair have more than doubled the size of the business. The company was facing challenges in managing its operations, particularly in areas such as invoicing, reconciliation, and team coordination. The co-owners were in search of a more efficient and sustainable way of running the business, which led them to implement Fergus, a Job Management Software.
The Challenge
AXT Plumbing, a company based in Yarrawonga, Victoria, Australia, was facing significant challenges in managing its operations. Co-owners Tyler Sprunt and Ashley Thomson found that running the business side of things was consuming a huge amount of time, particularly in areas such as invoicing and reconciliation. The administrative burden was so high that they often had to personally oversee these tasks, despite having administrative support. Additionally, coordinating the team and tracking hours and materials was proving to be a major hurdle. The existing system was not sustainable, leading to loss of hours and materials, and the owners were in search of a more efficient solution.
The Solution
The solution came in the form of Fergus, a Job Management Software. After exploring several options, AXT Plumbing chose Fergus due to its user-friendly interface, ease of implementation, and cost-effectiveness. The company made use of Fergus' free online training and support to get up and running as quickly as possible. They had 3-4 sessions in the first few months, each time learning how to use it better and more productively. The transition was not without challenges, as the team had to adapt to a new way of doing things. However, with time, using Fergus became second nature to the team. As the company grew, new members were able to quickly learn from their peers. The growth of the business coincided with the implementation of Fergus.

Smooth Transition to Energy Savings
The building was equipped with four end-of-life Trane water cooled chillers, located in the basement. Johnson Controls installed four York water cooled centrifugal chillers with unit mounted variable speed drives and a total installed cooling capacity of 6,8 MW. Each chiller has a capacity of 1,6 MW (variable to 1.9MW depending upon condenser water temperatures). Johnson Controls needed to design the equipment in such way that it would fit the dimensional constraints of the existing plant area and plant access route but also the specific performance requirements of the client. Morgan Stanley required the chiller plant to match the building load profile, turn down to match the low load requirement when needed and provide an improvement in the Energy Efficiency Ratio across the entire operating range. Other requirements were a reduction in the chiller noise level to improve the working environment in the plant room and a wide operating envelope coupled with intelligent controls to allow possible variation in both flow rate and temperature. The latter was needed to leverage increased capacity from a reduced number of machines during the different installation phases and allow future enhancement to a variable primary flow system.
