Hotel Nikko is a luxury hotel located in San Francisco’s Union Square. It offers 532 guest rooms for business and leisure travelers and boasts rich amenities including an expansive heated indoor pool, meeting and event space, an elegant restaurant, and a 24-hour fitness center. For over 25 years, Hotel Nikko has hosted weddings, galas, major fundraisers, and other special events. The hotel has received the prestigious Four Diamond Award from AAA and a four-star rating in the 2013 Forbes Travel Guide. Like most hotels, Hotel Nikko relies heavily on its network to support guest services, reservation systems, property management, and other critical business operations.
The Challenge
Hotel Nikko, a luxury hotel located in San Francisco’s Union Square, was facing a significant challenge in maintaining its network security. The hotel relies heavily on its network to support guest services, reservation systems, property management, and other critical business operations. Any network outage could lead to lost revenue, disappointed guests, and damage to the hotel’s reputation. Despite having a firewall from another vendor, the hotel found it difficult to manage and it provided only limited protection against sophisticated network threats. The situation became critical when a virus invaded the hotel’s network and impacted some of its most critical business systems. The hotel was in need of a comprehensive security solution that could identify and mitigate the latest online threats, and was easy for its small IT team to set up and use.
The Solution
Hotel Nikko turned to Check Point for a solution. Following a colleague’s recommendation, the hotel installed and evaluated a Check Point 4200 Appliance to gain better visibility into the state of the network. Working closely with technology partner Dataway, the hotel deployed a Check Point Secure Web Gateway Blade Solution. This comprehensive security solution provided the hotel with real-time, multi-layered protection against web-borne malware, advanced granular control, and intuitive, centralized management. The Check Point solution offered deep insight into all network activity with a single, easy-to-use dashboard interface. The hotel could now focus on improving performance and delivering a better experience for guests and employees, rather than spending time tracking down network issues. The solution was also flexible and scalable, allowing the hotel to expand its security services whenever needed, without purchasing expensive new hardware or making management more complex.
