The Challenge
Houthoff, a top-tier independent Dutch law firm, was facing challenges in managing and coordinating their projects efficiently. The firm operates globally with offices in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels, London, and New York, and representatives in Asia and the United States. The rapidly changing legal landscape necessitated quick adaptation and constant communication with clients about the impact on their business. However, the traditional methods of work distribution and assigning lawyers to matters were proving insufficient. The firm was struggling with the growing challenge of staying fully informed and keeping everybody involved and happy in an era dominated by hybrid working, increased workloads, time pressure, and labor shortages. Especially for large complex matters, setting up a team with lawyers from different practice groups across the firm was a daunting task for a partner. Moreover, ensuring a balanced workload for lawyers to prevent any risk of overload was also a significant concern.
The Solution
To address these challenges, Houthoff implemented Betty Blocks’ low-code/no-code (LCNC) platform in 2021. The firm's innovation team, in close collaboration with different departments, focused on implementing innovative digital solutions to optimize their internal and external processes. One of the key projects was the development of the MyWork application, which aimed at improving staffing matters. The application was delivered in just four weeks with the Betty Blocks development team. The MyWork application allowed lawyers to easily fill in their weekly availability, their knowledge, and experience. It provided a centralized overview for staffing professionals with all the relevant information on availability, experience, and expertise within a few clicks. The application also facilitated lawyers to closely align their work with their expertise, professional development, and personal preferences. The benefits of building the MyWork application with Betty Blocks included starting with set templates, easy customization with coding, and integration of different systems to exchange required information.
