The Challenge
Aon faced increasing requests for climate data from regulatory bodies, clients, and employees. The firm needed a meaningful action plan starting with an up-to-date carbon footprint. However, the existing greenhouse gas accounting process required enhancement to meet these demands effectively.
The Solution
Aon partnered with Watershed in late 2022 to automate its carbon footprint measurement. Watershed provided a comprehensive platform that automated data measurement, ensuring accuracy and confidence in calculations. The platform's data library, with over 60,000 emissions factors, and its ability to pull vendor emissions data from CDP, significantly reduced manual work. This allowed Aon to focus on strategic emissions reduction actions, categorized into three buckets: strategic materiality, immediate reduction opportunities, and future emissions. The solution enabled Aon to target its supply chain for decarbonization opportunities and ensure accurate Scope 3 emissions evaluation.
