About The Customer
The customer in this case study is Fiji Airways, a premier airline company. Fiji Airways was looking for an innovative way to promote Fiji as a travel destination to the hardworking citizens of Singapore. They wanted to provide a unique and immersive experience that would offer a refreshing escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Fiji Airways collaborated with iris, a company specializing in digital platforms and services, to create an immersive VR experience that would transport users to the beautiful locations in Fiji.
The Challenge
The bustling city life in Singapore often leaves its hardworking citizens yearning for a break. The challenge was to provide these individuals with a unique and immersive experience that could transport them away from the city's hustle and bustle, even if just for a while. Fiji Airways, in collaboration with iris, sought to create a solution that would not only offer a refreshing escape but also promote Fiji as a desirable travel destination. The goal was to create an experience that was so real and immersive that users could touch and smell the environment as the virtual world transformed around them.
The Solution
The solution was an immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experience created by iris and Fiji Airways. Stereoscopic footage was captured on location in Fiji, which allowed the user to experience a real location mixed with virtual objects. This experience was placed in a physical space that exactly matched the virtual world, allowing users to touch and smell the environment as the virtual world transformed around them. To further enhance the experience and attract more users, a 4m wide mixed reality projector was installed on the outside of the hut. This allowed passers-by to get a glimpse into the virtual world and enticed them to try the experience.

Implementing Robotic Surgery Training Simulator for Enhanced Surgical Proficiency
Fundacio Puigvert, a leading European medical center specializing in Urology, Nephrology, and Andrology, faced a significant challenge in training its surgical residents. The institution recognized the need for a more standardized and comprehensive training curriculum, particularly in the area of robotic surgery. The challenge was underscored by two independent studies showing that less than 5% of residents in Italian and German residency programs could perform major or complex procedures by the end of their residency. The institution sought to establish a virtual reality simulation lab that would include endourological, laparoscopic, and robotic platforms. However, they needed a simulator that could replicate both the hardware and software of the robotic Da Vinci console used in the operating room, without being connected to the actual physical console. They also required a system that could provide both basic and advanced simulation training, and a metrics system to assess the proficiency of the trainees before they performed surgical procedures in the operating theater.

Accelerating Software Development for Large-Scale Real-Time Systems at Mitsubishi Electric’s Kamakura Works
Mitsubishi Electric, a leading manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment, was facing challenges in its software development processes for large-scale real-time systems at its Kamakura Works production hub. The software engineering department was tasked with developing software solutions for complex systems such as satellites and ground control centers. However, these solutions were becoming larger and more complex, and the development lead time was getting shorter. The department was working to refine and systematize its processes for developing various types of software solutions. They were also preparing for a further increase in the speed and scale of future software development. The department aimed to cope with the growing sophistication and speed of software development by promoting automation, flexibly meet the demands of the most complex pipeline projects, and realize a secure on-premises environment that was not connected to the Internet.
