About The Customer
Jim Middleton is an electrician based in Oyne near Aberdeen, Scotland. He is the founder of JMTEC Services, a company that specializes in electrical services and security and CCTV installations. Jim is passionate about processes and efficiency, which led him to seek out a better way to manage his company's operations. Despite not being a 'computer person', he found Fergus to be instinctively easy to use and beneficial for his business. With the extra time he has gained from using Fergus, Jim enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He is currently content working on his own but feels confident about future growth, knowing that he has the proper back-office infrastructure to manage additional workload.
The Challenge
Jim Middleton, an electrician based in Oyne near Aberdeen, Scotland, was facing significant challenges in managing his company, JMTEC Services. Despite specializing in electrical services and security and CCTV installations, the lack of a proper system for managing operations was causing him considerable stress. The company was relying on basic accounting software features and Excel spreadsheets, which were insufficient for the demands of a busy electrical business. The situation was becoming increasingly difficult to manage, even with a dedicated admin person in the office. The need for a more efficient, tailor-made solution for managing field services became apparent, prompting Jim to research the best field service management software tools available.
The Solution
After watching numerous demos of different field service management tools, Jim came across Fergus. He was immediately impressed by its simplicity and user-friendly interface. He and his office administrator began using Fergus for all their operations and found that they were able to accomplish more tasks than ever before. The system was instinctively easy to use, even for Jim who does not consider himself a 'computer person'. The dashboard functionality was particularly beneficial, as it allowed him to have all jobs in one place, grouped by status. This helped him to always follow the correct procedures and see what needed to be actioned immediately. The system also made it easy for him to reuse old quotes as templates for new jobs, as his terms for certain types of jobs never changed.

Hydro One Leads the Way In Smart Meter Development
In 2010, Ontario’s energy board mandated that time-of-use (TOU) pricing for consumers be available for all consumers on a regulated price plan. To meet this requirement, Hydro One needed to quickly deploy a smart meter and intelligent communications network solution to meet the provincial government’s requirement at a low cost. The network needed to cover Hydro One’s expansive service territory, which has a land mass twice the size of Texas, and its customers live in a mix of urban, rural, and remote areas, some places only accessible by air, rail, boat or snowmobile. Most importantly, the network needed to enable future enterprise-wide business efficiencies, modernization of distribution infrastructure and enhanced customer service. To meet these needs, Hydro One conceptualized an end-to-end solution leveraging open standards and Internet Protocols (IP) at all communication levels. The utility drew upon industry leaders like Trilliant to realize this vision.
