About The Customer
Lynx Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based PPG Industries. It is the market leader in auto glass claims management, managing more than 3 million claims each year. Lynx Services processes three types of claims for insurance clients – auto glass claims, first notice of loss claims, and auto physical damage claims. The company coordinates the repair by obtaining coverage from the owner’s insurance company, assisting the insured with identifying an auto glass installer, and administering the invoicing and payment process.
The Challenge
Lynx Services, a market leader in auto glass claims management, required a high availability, transaction-processing oriented database solution that would enable it to process claims for its clients 24x7. The solution needed to be reliable, easy to use, and able to scale as the company grew. The company manages more than 3 million claims each year, processing three types of claims for insurance clients – auto glass claims, first notice of loss claims, and auto physical damage claims. The company needed a database that could handle this volume of transactions and provide high availability and quick transactional processing.
The Solution
After evaluating the leading database solutions, Lynx Services selected the Ingres Database. The company transitioned to an open source version of the Ingres Database within the last year. The open source model allows Lynx Services to pay by the type of support they choose rather than by CPU. The company uses the Ingres ABF development tool for creating and maintaining its auto glass claims applications. The Ingres Database provides high availability, quick transactional processing, and an easy deployment language that helps Lynx Services manage more than 3 million claims annually.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).

Monitoring of Pressure Pumps in Automotive Industry
A large German/American producer of auto parts uses high-pressure pumps to deburr machined parts as a part of its production and quality check process. They decided to monitor these pumps to make sure they work properly and that they can see any indications leading to a potential failure before it affects their process.
