The Challenge
Haenen Design Studios, a brand identity and interior design consultancy based in Culver City, CA, faced a significant challenge in creating to-scale, dimensionally accurate 2D drawings of interior design concepts. These drawings were crucial for incorporating design elements and communicating interior design concepts to clients and contractors. The company's principal designer, Christine Haenen, had experience with AutoCAD® 2D design software from her student days. However, upon founding Haenen Design Studios, she found that a commercial license for AutoCAD was prohibitively expensive. She needed a more affordable 2D design and drawing package that could meet her needs without compromising on quality or functionality.
The Solution
Haenen Design Studios turned to DraftSight Professional 2D design software as a cost-effective solution for their design needs. The software was recommended by an architect friend and proved to be a good fit for the company. DraftSight's functionality was similar to AutoCAD, making it easy for Haenen to learn and start using the software. She found it straightforward to develop drawings of the spaces she was working on, using a laser-based measurement system to capture accurate dimensions for the space, which she then input into her drawings. She also used Adobe® InDesign® software to create visuals of the furniture, appliances, and furnishings, which she then included as an overlay to her base drawing. The affordability of DraftSight Professional software made it an ideal solution for Haenen Design Studios.

Advanced Elastomer Systems Upgrades Production
In order to maintain its share of the international market for thermoplastic elastomers AES recently expanded its Florida plant by adding a new production line. While the existing lines were operating satisfactorily using a PROVOX distributed control system with traditional analog I/O, AES wanted advanced technology on the new line for greater economy, efficiency, and reliability. AES officials were anxious to get this line into production to meet incoming orders, but two hurricanes slowed construction.
