The Challenge
Lufthansa Systems, a leading IT service provider for the airline and transportation markets, needed a robust and stable database platform to underpin its airline planning and routing software. This software is sold to hundreds of airlines globally to ensure every flight is a safe one. The Solution

This application is used by airlines to operate thousands of flights for millions of passengers. A central Ingres database serves as the repository of information that powers Lido/FlightPlanning. The data is available to the application in real-time, it is easy to use, secure and available 24 x 7. Lufthansa Systems installs the solution, maintains and updates it in real time to ensure that the airlines have the latest information at their fingertips when they need it.

For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
