About The Customer
MAN Diesel & Turbo is a part of the MAN Group, one of Europe's leading industrial players in transport-related engineering. The company, which generated revenue of approximately €16.5 billion in 2011, is a supplier of trucks, buses, diesel engines, turbo machinery, and special gear units. With a workforce of approximately 52,500 people, MAN Diesel & Turbo operates in over 100 locations across 50 countries. Its divisions hold leading positions in their respective markets, making it a significant player in the global industrial sector.
The Challenge
MAN Diesel & Turbo, a leading industrial player in transport-related engineering, faced a significant challenge when their existing security solution, SurfControl, reached its end-of-life. With a vast network of 12,000 users spread across over 100 locations in 50 countries, the company needed to find a new solution that could protect their extensive user base without incurring additional capital expenditure. The task of replicating the appliance model was no longer feasible, especially considering that some of their remote sites lacked advanced filtering. The challenge was to find a solution that was not only effective but also scalable and capable of evolving with the company's requirements.
The Solution
In their search for a new solution, MAN Diesel & Turbo evaluated several options, including McAfee on-premise and cloud gateway solutions, Websense, and Cisco Scansafe. However, they found hybrid solutions challenging due to the separation of on-premise and cloud components, which made reporting difficult. After rigorous testing across two continents, the company chose Zscaler. The Zscaler solution stood out for its simplicity, scalability, and advanced architecture. As a pure cloud service, Zscaler allowed MAN Diesel & Turbo to secure all their offices without any additional hardware. The solution was built with a cloud architecture from the ground up, making it easy to manage and effective in protecting users. Furthermore, Zscaler's advanced architecture allowed for integration with a range of authentication options, traffic forwarding options, and third-party services and tools, making it an ideal choice for enterprises with evolving or varied technology standards.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Zscaler brought about significant operational benefits for MAN Diesel & Turbo. The simplicity of the solution made it easy to manage, even with the company's extensive network of users and locations. The cloud-based nature of Zscaler meant that the company could secure all its offices without the need for additional hardware, leading to cost savings. Furthermore, the advanced architecture of Zscaler allowed for seamless integration with various authentication options, traffic forwarding options, and third-party services and tools. This flexibility made it an ideal solution for a company with evolving or varied technology standards. Additionally, Zscaler's robust reporting capabilities enabled MAN Diesel & Turbo to go beyond mere web filtering reports and make informed decisions about network infrastructure diagnosis and optimization.
