About The Customer
Micron Technology is a global leader in the semiconductor industry, with over 35 years of experience in innovation. The company's teams of dreamers, visionaries, and scientists have redefined innovation by designing and building some of the world's most advanced memory and semiconductor technologies. Micron holds more than 20,000 patents and offers the broadest portfolio of memory solutions in the industry. The company continues to transform how the world uses information, but faced challenges in managing and extracting big data from its multiple manufacturing sites.
The Challenge
Micron Technology, a leading innovator in memory and semiconductor technologies, faced a significant challenge in managing and extracting manufacturing big data from 12 separate sites. The company was unable to deliver data within the requested timeframes, leading to many sites attempting to access OLTP data directly. This resulted in redundant processes, resource inefficiency, and data integration and performance issues. The data warehousing and analytics solutions developed were not able to keep up with the needs of the business. Projects that did occur were isolated, with no ability to build onto or modify when needed.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, Micron Technology turned to WhereScape® automation to design and build an enterprise Data Vault using Data Vault 2.0 methodology on Teradata. This automation was built specifically to leverage the native capabilities of Teradata, allowing Micron to implement the foundation for its new enterprise data vault within 90 days. Furthermore, the Micron team can now produce a new prototype within an hour that can be used to evaluate effectiveness with business users before moving a solution into production. This has given Micron rapid access to an enterprise-wide view of manufacturing big data, and the ability to respond to end-user queries and supply the data requested within the same day.
