About The Customer
UTi Worldwide is a global company that built a thriving business based on air and ocean freight forwarding in less than 10 years. The company serves a large and diverse base of global and local companies. As the company grew, its customers started demanding more than just the operational business offering. They wanted enhanced supply chain management services that would optimize their supply chains. UTi decided to offer these services in addition to its established operational business offering. The decision to enhance its service offering has been a great success for both UTi and its customers.
The Challenge
UTi Worldwide, a global business based on air and ocean freight forwarding, was facing a challenge. Its customers were demanding more than just the operational business offering. They wanted enhanced supply chain management services that would optimize their supply chains. UTi's existing IT systems were not equipped for this task as they were primarily geared towards processing orders and not optimizing logistics flows. The company needed a new IT solution that could provide a range of new logistics services, evaluate different distribution solutions, simulate alternative distribution networks, and optimize supply chains.
The Solution
UTi decided to partner with JDA and implemented a suite of their solutions including JDA Transportation Manager, JDA Transportation Modeler, JDA Transportation Planner with load configuration capabilities, and JDA Supply Chain Strategist. These solutions allowed UTi to offer a range of new logistics services to its customers. They were able to evaluate different distribution solutions, simulate alternative distribution networks, and optimize supply chains. For instance, they used JDA Supply Chain Strategist to establish the best location for a centralized warehouse for an electronics company and explore opportunities for reducing supply chain costs by closing down local warehouses. Similarly, they used the load configuration capabilities of the JDA solution to calculate weights and volumes to perfectly fill a container for an automotive customer.

Remote Temperature Monitoring of Perishable Goods Saves Money
RMONI was facing temperature monitoring challenges in a cold chain business. A cold chain must be established and maintained to ensure goods have been properly refrigerated during every step of the process, making temperature monitoring a critical business function. Manual registration practice can be very costly, labor intensive and prone to mistakes.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).
