The Challenge
The p2p Business Awards was conceived to address the need for affordable recognition and public relations (PR) for small businesses, solo entrepreneurs, and social enterprises. The founder, David M. Simons, a project manager without a technical background, was inspired by an article about an entrepreneur who used Bubble, a no-code platform, to launch a product. The challenge was to create a web-based awards platform where peers could judge each other’s entries, eliminating the need for gala dinners or secret panels of judges. The goal was to provide participants with low-cost recognition and PR, along with a press kit that includes a personalized certificate page, press release, and web page.
The Solution
David M. Simons used Bubble, a no-code platform, to build the p2p Business Awards app. Users complete a short questionnaire and select the award categories they wish to enter. Once the minimum number of entries from a geographic area are received, each participant completes their submission and is charged an entry fee. Users then read and evaluate their peers’ submissions and rank them in order of preference, resulting in a score for each submission. All participants receive an email letting them know how they did (e.g., winner, runner-up, etc.), along with PR tips and the press kit. The app was launched in March and has been receiving user engagement and feedback. David is also expanding his web presence by blogging about awards and creating video tutorials, which have helped him acquire readers and add a number of backlinks.
