Plants Delivered Chicago is an online plant shop based in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. The company offers plant delivery throughout the Chicagoland area and beyond. Founded in 2019, Plants Delivered Chicago fills a gap in the market by offering vibrant large-scale plants at an affordable price with in-person delivery. The company prides itself on delivering 2-3 times the plant size compared to other large plant sellers for the same price. The company went full time in April of 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and has since been dedicated to keeping plant delivery alive.
The Challenge
Plants Delivered Chicago, an online plant shop, faced a significant challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. As non-essential businesses began to close, the company decided to keep plant delivery alive to meet the massive demand for plants. However, the logistics and administrative side of the business quickly became overwhelming. The company struggled to organize and optimize delivery routes, and the founder, Andy Robledo, found himself shuffling through five different apps on his phone, none of which were satisfactory. The company also faced financial strain as it tried to grow and scale the business by hiring employees, with the cost of administrative assistants ranging from $55k-$65k a year per individual.
The Solution
In the summer of 2020, Plants Delivered Chicago implemented Onfleet delivery management software. This software was recommended by a friend in software development who had first-hand experience using Onfleet. The software was used to optimize the overall delivery experience and scale operations. Onfleet’s integrated route optimization engine uses real-time data including time, location, capacity, and traffic to produce the most efficient routing solutions. This provided Plants Delivered Chicago with up-to-the-second customer info, order details, notifications, and navigation. The implementation of Onfleet not only streamlined the delivery process but also replaced the need for administrative employees, thus saving the company significant costs.
