About The Customer
The primary customers of Prograds are graduate students, faculty, and program administrators in universities and other higher education institutions. These users require a centralized system to track and update student progress, milestones, requirements, funding, courses, and other events. The platform is particularly beneficial for faculty members who supervise or are committee members for multiple students, as it provides a comprehensive dashboard of all their students. Program administrators also benefit from the rollup dashboards of all students, all faculty, and all funding. The platform is currently being beta tested in some departments at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver.
The Challenge
The founder of Prograds, Fred Cutler, identified a significant challenge in the academic field, particularly for graduate students, faculty, and program administrators. The issue was the lack of a centralized system to update and track each student's status and progress. This lack of a unified platform made it difficult to keep track of student milestones, requirements, funding, courses, thesis work, and other events. The challenge was further compounded by the need for a system that could facilitate file sharing, messaging, and setting email reminders to keep students on track. The absence of such a system led to inefficiencies and communication gaps, hindering the smooth progress of graduate students.
The Solution
To address this challenge, Fred Cutler developed Prograds, the first and only web application for graduate student progress, using Bubble's no-code platform. Prograds is a comprehensive solution that allows grad students, faculty, and program administrators to update information about each student's status and progress. The platform provides a progress page for students, showing their stage, milestones to be completed, requirements to be met, funding, employment, events, courses, and what they're currently working on. Faculty members have a dashboard of all the students they supervise or are committee members for, while admins have rollup dashboards of all students, all faculty, and all funding. The platform also facilitates file sharing, messaging, and setting email reminders.
