About The Customer
Energiedienstholding is a company in the Infrastructure Services sector, specifically in the Utilities industry. The company was established in 1895 with the construction of the Rheinfelden power station on the Rhine, which was Europe's first hydraulic power station. In 2008, the company had power sales of 7,840 Gwh. Since 2003, Energiedienstholding has been part of EnBW, a majority shareholder, and merged with EnAlpin in 2008. The company has 710 employees and achieved a net turnover of €694 million in 2008.
The Challenge
Energiedienstholding was facing a challenge with their existing SAP-BW system. The system was too time-consuming as most standard filters and interfaces could not be used directly due to the need for individual adaptability. As a result, essential reporting and planning were carried out manually in Excel, which was inefficient and prone to errors. Furthermore, the requirements for analysis and simulation in seven parallel accounting systems were increasing sharply within Energiedienstholding, adding to the complexity and workload.
The Solution
Energiedienstholding implemented QlikView as an analytical and reporting solution. The solution was based on data from SAP (FI-CO, ISU), Microsoft Navision, and other sources. The solution was used for various purposes across different departments. For specialist departments, it was used for cost centre and order analysis. For external reporting, it was used for evaluations and indicators for the Energiedienst Group. For management, it was used for indicators and dashboards, evaluations by profit centres. For analysis, it was used for evaluations of individual companies, power coordination, and EnBW Export.
Operational Impact
  • Rapid, consistent and comparable information
  • Cross-departmental analyses
  • Simple handling for users with minimal expenditure on training
  • Savings in IT costs
  • Increased competitiveness
