About The Customer
Allied Metals Corporation has been in operation for over 50 years, providing high purity, low carbon steel and stainless steel melt stock to induction melters. The company has an extensive inventory in its warehouses across the U.S. and in Europe and operates a rigorous quality control system. This allows Allied Metals to supply material with precise analytical and physical specifications at reasonable prices. The company operates from its international headquarters in Troy, Michigan, its manufacturing plant in Mount Summit, Indiana, its processing facility in Liege, Belgium, and its additional facilities in Düsseldorf, Germany, Tokyo, Japan, and Paris, France. Allied Metals is committed to obtaining, processing, and distributing the highest quality materials available to best serve its global customers.
The Challenge
Allied Metals Corporation, a company that provides high purity, low carbon steel and stainless steel melt stock, was in need of a robust solution to replace its old accounting software. The company sought a solution that incorporated accounting, distribution, and manufacturing components and had the capability to support rapid growth and international operations. The company launched a very structured selection process, considering other packages such as Microsoft® Dynamics GP and SysPro. However, these solutions did not meet all the requirements of Allied Metals.
The Solution
Allied Metals chose Sage ERP X3 as their solution. Sage ERP X3 provides an integrated ERP solution that supports all facets of the company’s diverse and growing operation. The software efficiently tracks the materials from first receipt, through the manufacturing cycle, then the testing cycle, through the stocking or shipping cycles. Allied Metals uses the Sage ERP X3 lot tracking feature and the ability to produce Certificates of Analysis in its operations to ensure traceability and quality standards. The software also supports the creation of all necessary order documentation to facilitate accurate and on-time product shipments. Operations within the United States access Sage ERP X3 on the server located in the company’s Troy, Michigan headquarters. European and Asian operations access a second server located in Germany.

Fully Automated Visual Inspection System
Tofflon has developed a fully automatic machine that uses light to inspect vials, medicine bottles, or infusion containers for glass fragments, aluminum particles, rubber grains, hairs, fibers, or other contaminants. It also detects damaged containers with cracks or inclusions (microscopic imperfections), automatically removing faulty or contaminated products. In order to cover all production processes for freeze-dried pharmaceuticals, Tofflon needed to create an open, consistent, and module-based automation concept.
