The Challenge
Francisco, in his new role at Fames Transport, aimed to modernize the family business to keep up with changing technology and business tools. His first initiative was to update the company's GPS tracking solution, which was clunky and used excessive data. Francisco tasked his team with finding a new provider as soon as their contract finished. Upon discovering Samsara’s platform, he was impressed by its intuitive interface and accurate live location tracking. However, the decision to adopt Samsara was ultimately driven by the platform's comprehensive features, including safety improvements from in-vehicle cameras and operational savings from automating time sheets.
The Solution
Francisco began by installing two VG34 Vehicle Gateways to monitor activity and location, along with safety features like harsh braking, acceleration, and speeding. He discovered that one of his drivers had a low safety score due to excessive speeding and harsh braking events. After consulting with the Samsara team, Francisco decided to install Samsara’s CM11 cameras in the same vehicles. The driver’s safety score improved significantly within two weeks. Encouraged by these results, Francisco installed cameras in every truck and started using Samsara’s Safety Report to incentivize responsible driving. Additionally, Fames Transport used Samsara to automate the time card process, which was previously managed by five administrators and prone to errors. The transition to electronic tracking of driver hours and mileage reduced administrative workload and ensured fair compensation for drivers.

For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
