About The Customer
SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation is a leading satellite television broadcaster in Japan. The company is known for its high-quality content and innovative approach to broadcasting. With a focus on sports broadcasting, SKY Perfect JSAT has been at the forefront of adopting new technologies to enhance the viewer experience. The company's commitment to delivering world-class sports content is evident in its recent upgrade to a 4K HDR broadcasting system. This upgrade, the first since 2009, was a significant undertaking aimed at meeting the increasing demand for high-quality sports content. The company's focus on operational efficiency and future-proofing its systems demonstrates its commitment to staying at the cutting edge of broadcasting technology.
The Challenge
SKY Perfect JSAT, a leading Japanese satellite television broadcaster, faced a significant challenge in upgrading their sports broadcasting service. The company required a system that could support 4K / HDR and edit footage for highlights packages during a live broadcast. The need for this upgrade was driven by the increasing demand for high-quality sports content and the need to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving broadcasting industry. The last major update to their facility had been in 2009, and the existing system was not equipped to handle the demands of 4K broadcasting. The challenge was not just about upgrading the hardware, but also about ensuring seamless integration with existing systems, maintaining operational consistency, and preparing for future technological advancements.
The Solution
To address this challenge, SKY Perfect JSAT implemented a solution involving Avid Interplay and Avid shared storage, which provided centralized management for the feed recording center. This allowed all 4K HDR assets to be simultaneously edited by Media Composer suites across the facility. The feed recording facility, developed by Avid Elite Reseller Photron, featured four EVS XS3 media production servers and two STING recording control terminals. This setup enabled the recording of up to 20 HD video feeds simultaneously. The Avid Media Composer | Ultimate was used to play back files from Avid shared storage with minimal latency while the files were still being recorded. The solution also included a backup system that automatically performed background synchronization of specified data and backed up asset metadata.
