About The Customer
The customer is a telematics company that operates in the telecommunications industry. The company provides telematic services to insurance clients, which involves storing and transferring sensitive customer information on a regular basis. The company is relatively small, with around 100 total employees. Its IT operations team consists of five employees who are tasked with handling everything IT-related, including security. Despite being resource-constrained, the company prioritizes security in its internal systems design due to the sensitive nature of the data they handle.
The Challenge
The telematics company, despite having a deep understanding of the tactics used by cybercriminals, was constrained by limited resources and budget. With a total of 100 employees, the IT operations team consisted of only five members who were tasked with handling everything IT-related, including security. The company provides telematic services to insurance clients, requiring them to store and transfer sensitive customer information regularly. Therefore, security was a top priority. However, with limited financial ability to fund a dedicated Security Operations Center (SOC) team, it became a priority to find budget-friendly alternatives. The company needed a solution that was software and operating system agnostic, and could help detect attacker behavior, increase their human expertise with artificial intelligence (AI), and address any threat or abnormal activity.
The Solution
To address their security challenges, the company evaluated network detection and response (NDR) solutions. After evaluating different solutions, they selected Vectra Cognito Detect as it met their technical demands. The solution was software and operating system agnostic and provided a holistic view of their environment. Vectra Cognito Detect flags any abnormal traffic that comes through the company’s environment. The company also uses Cognito Recall for threat-hunting. In addition to Vectra, the company leverages Amazon Web Services (AWS) for public cloud services and uses Amazon GuardDuty for threat detection and monitoring of cloud accounts, workloads, and data. This combination of tools allows the company to efficiently protect all of its data throughout the environment both on-premises and in AWS cloud instances.

Vodafone Hosted On AWS
Vodafone found that traffic for the applications peak during the four-month period when the international cricket season is at its height in Australia. During the 2011/2012 cricket season, 700,000 consumers downloaded the Cricket Live Australia application. Vodafone needed to be able to meet customer demand, but didn’t want to invest in additional resources that would be underutilized during cricket’s off-season.
