The Challenge
M B Electrical Services, a family-run business with over two decades of experience in the electrical contracting industry, was facing challenges in managing their growing business. The company, known for its high-quality installations and repairs, was struggling with the manual input of all their business data. This included writing up all invoices and making manual copies for their own records. The owner and Managing Director, Mike Baines, realized the need for a more efficient job management solution to handle their increasing workload. The existing process was not only time-consuming but also prone to errors and mismanagement, potentially affecting their reputation and customer relationships.
The Solution
In search of a solution, Mike and his team explored various job management solutions and finally settled on Fergus Software. Fergus provided them with the functionalities they needed with the simplicity they wanted. The Fergus dashboard made tracking large numbers of jobs a breeze for the company, easily tracking the stage of every job from initial estimates through to the completion of invoices. Automated invoice reminders also ensured Mike and the team were able to keep on top of late payments, without having to manually chase customers. One of Mike’s favourite features on the Fergus platform is the materials price book. Using this, he has been able to accurately cost up jobs by searching for the materials using the price book search and finding accurate up-to-date prices from his suppliers.

Hydro One Leads the Way In Smart Meter Development
In 2010, Ontario’s energy board mandated that time-of-use (TOU) pricing for consumers be available for all consumers on a regulated price plan. To meet this requirement, Hydro One needed to quickly deploy a smart meter and intelligent communications network solution to meet the provincial government’s requirement at a low cost. The network needed to cover Hydro One’s expansive service territory, which has a land mass twice the size of Texas, and its customers live in a mix of urban, rural, and remote areas, some places only accessible by air, rail, boat or snowmobile. Most importantly, the network needed to enable future enterprise-wide business efficiencies, modernization of distribution infrastructure and enhanced customer service. To meet these needs, Hydro One conceptualized an end-to-end solution leveraging open standards and Internet Protocols (IP) at all communication levels. The utility drew upon industry leaders like Trilliant to realize this vision.
