About The Customer
Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) is a world-leading provider of advanced space services with over 50 years of experience in the industry. As a full-service supplier of state-of-the-art space engineering and services, SSC caters to commercial and institutional customers worldwide. The company operates one of the world’s largest civilian networks of satellite ground stations and offers unmatched consulting experience across all phases of space programs. SSC also provides a variety of rocket, balloon, and experimental launch services at the Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden, one of the world’s most versatile civilian space centers.
The Challenge
Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), a leading provider of advanced space services, faced a significant challenge in managing their vast array of digital assets, particularly images from various launches and advanced projects. These assets were scattered across multiple shared drives, making it difficult to locate and distribute them quickly. The problem was exacerbated by the lack of metadata provided by photographers uploading the assets, making it even harder to locate specific images or videos. Furthermore, managing permissions for each shared drive location was a complex task. The situation was causing stress and inefficiency, with significant time spent on searching for the right asset and sharing it using third-party platforms like Dropbox.
The Solution
SSC implemented Canto, a digital asset management software, to consolidate their digital assets into a single source of truth. The implementation process involved transferring SSC’s image assets into the new digital asset management (DAM) environment and organizing them into a structure of folders and albums. Each uploaded file was tagged with vital metadata, such as location, service type, and project name, to facilitate easy location and retrieval. Canto’s upload links feature was used to ensure that all uploaded images were properly labeled and tagged. To streamline the process of fielding press requests for images, a dedicated press portal was created on the SSC website, containing all images cleared for publication. A separate portal was also set up for the creative agency handling the company’s design work. Canto’s customization features allowed seamless integration into the company’s existing environment, improving user experience. The software also facilitated easy sharing of specific images through shareable links, with the option to make these links expire after a short period.
