About The Customer
The customer is one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, specializing in developing therapies for multiple sclerosis, hemophilia, and other autoimmune disorders. This pharmaceutical company is dedicated to shipping their life-saving therapies around the globe, often navigating through high-risk areas to ensure their patients receive the necessary treatments. With individual shipments valued between 20-30 million dollars, the company places a high priority on supply chain performance and visibility. Despite their prominence in the biotechnology field, they faced significant challenges in tracking the routes taken by their shipments and identifying specific areas of risk or loss. This lack of visibility hindered their ability to optimize route performance and secure their valuable goods from potential theft.
The Challenge
One of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, focusing on developing therapies for multiple sclerosis, hemophilia, and other autoimmune disorders, needed true end-to-end supply chain visibility. This pharmaceutical company ships their therapies around the world, often through high-risk areas to reach their patients. With individual shipments worth 20-30 million dollars, supply chain performance and visibility are of utmost importance. Despite this, they did not know the current routes taken between origin and destination sites and, consequently, they were unaware of specific areas of risk or loss. As a result, this company needed better insight into the actual performance of their supply chain to optimize route performance and identify areas of risk for securing their goods from theft.
The Solution
Using the SaaS solution, Savi Tracking, Savi was able to identify and monitor the location and status of the company's goods. They created origin and destination sites, corridors, and shipments using Savi Tracking to provide the customer with true, real-time visibility. Savi generated alerts to improve performance and reduce risk regarding scenarios that were important to their mission, such as alerts for deviating from corridors and alerts for tampered tags at unauthorized locations. To further reduce risk, Savi installed pallet tags for increased security and performed risk analysis using third-party data and weather information. Reports were designed to analyze routes driven, where stops occurred, stop duration, and risk events on particular routes. This comprehensive approach provided the biotechnology company with the necessary tools to gain better insight into their supply chain, optimize route performance, and secure their goods from theft.
Operational Impact
  • Obtained insight into actual routes to optimize performance.
  • Gained a better understanding of risk areas.
  • Alerted to real-time events that occurred during shipments.
  • Identified trends to allow more proactive decisions and eliminate problems.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Individual shipments worth 20-30 million dollars.
