About The Customer
The primary customers for Sets are communities that use Slack as their primary communication platform. These could be tech clusters like CodeBase, where Littlejohn has eight years of experience building the community, or any other group that uses Slack for communication and collaboration. The customers are looking for ways to enhance the community experience on Slack, find people with similar interests, get regular updates about important events, and co-curate a community wiki. They also want to automate some of the community admin tasks to make the management of the community more efficient.
The Challenge
The founder of Sets, Oliver Littlejohn, identified a gap in the functionality of Slack, a popular communication platform. While Slack is an effective tool for connecting people, it lacked certain elements that could truly bring a community together. The challenge was to enhance Slack's capabilities to allow members to connect more organically, automate some of the community administration tasks, and provide a platform where members could easily find people with similar interests, get regular updates about important events, and help co-curate a community wiki.
The Solution
The solution was the development of Sets, an add-on for Slack that transforms it into a community portal. Sets was built using Bubble, a no-code platform that allowed Littlejohn to create a fully functioning web app without writing a line of code. The add-on allows members to access a community portal using their Slack credentials. Once a user is set up, they can see important updates instantly in Slack. The add-on also includes commands from within Slack that let a community member contribute to both the events schedule and the wiki. The add-on is designed to help community managers by automating some of the community admin tasks like sending out weekly roundups.
