About The Customer
The client is a UK-based non-profit organization that evaluates charitable organizations in the United States. They operate as a free 501 organization, accepting no advertising or donations from the organizations they assess. The client is committed to maintaining high security standards in compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). They also aim to enhance their global reach and response through the development of a robust web and mobile application. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, they faced challenges in maintaining secure remote access to their internal applications.
The Challenge
The client, a charity assessment organization based in the UK, was faced with several challenges. Firstly, they had to comply with the stringent security standards and controls set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Secondly, they aimed to develop a robust web and mobile application to expand their global reach and response. Additionally, they required a document management system with task workflow and task management capabilities for digital data recording. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization faced connectivity issues as their business users struggled to access internal applications from home. Their existing Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) setup lacked a secure method for remote connection.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, the client collaborated with Datamatics and adopted the AWS cloud. Datamatics proposed a comprehensive approach to help the client achieve their goals. They assisted in defining the right architecture with Multi-AZ and a devops pipeline to support the client's release management for both development and production AWS accounts. AWS environment hardening was carried out using CIS scripts to ensure best security practices during the cloud environment setup. A multi-account strategy was implemented to separate production and non-production environments by migrating servers across accounts. Furthermore, AWS CloudTrail and CloudWatch were enabled to provide almost real-time updates on security and operational events generated by the AWS environment and instances.

Digital Transformation of Atlanta Grout & Tile: An IoT Case Study
Atlanta Grout & Tile, a Tile, Stone & Grout restoration company based in Woodstock, Georgia, was facing challenges with its traditional business model. Despite steady growth over the years, the company was falling behind the web revolution and missing out on the opportunity to tap into a new consumer base. They were using independent software from different vendors for each of their department information and workforce management. This resulted in a lot of manual work on excel and the need to export/import data between different systems. This not only increased overhead costs but also slowed down their response to clients. The company also had to prepare numerous reports manually and lacked access to customer trends for effective business decision-making.

Enhancing Security and Compliance in Remitly's Global Money Transfer Service with Fastly
Remitly, an online remittance service, was faced with the challenge of securing its proprietary global transfer network. The company needed a security solution that could meet PCI requirements and protect customers' sensitive transactions through its mobile application. The solution had to be capable of defending against new and emerging attack types without impacting performance. Remitly also had to deal with irregular traffic patterns, such as a sudden spike in account transfers from a small network segment on the Pacific coastline of South America. The company needed to determine in real time whether such traffic indicated an attack or valid requests. A traditional web application firewall (WAF) would not be able to distinguish this traffic, potentially leading to customer frustration if the IP was blacklisted.
