CaratLane is a jewellery retailer founded in India in 2008. It offers modern, fine jewellery that is wearable every day. In July 2016, CaratLane joined forces with Tanishq, India’s largest jewellery brand, through a strategic investment by Titan Company. Today, CaratLane is India's largest omni-commerce jeweller, with over 131 retail stores across 40+ Indian cities. It’s also one of India’s top 20 e-commerce portals. The company has mapped out an aggressive expansion plan for North America and the Asia Pacific region in 2022.
The Challenge
CaratLane, India's largest online jeweller, faced a significant challenge in scaling its operations to meet the explosive growth in demand for its products. The COVID-19 pandemic had led to a surge in jewellery purchases, intensifying competition among online jewellery brands. CaratLane needed to maintain its competitive edge and build digital infrastructure to cope with the increased demand and scale for future capacity. The company had aggressive expansion plans for North America and the Asia Pacific region in 2022. The pandemic also changed the team's working dynamics, with most people working from home full time, altering how new features were rolled out into production. CaratLane's core backend services, which manage most of its APIs, were taking around 450 to 500 milliseconds, and the company could only scale horizontally when the load increased.
The Solution
CaratLane had been a New Relic customer for 3-4 years and decided to leverage the full New Relic offering to meet the escalating demand and prepare for major shopping festivals causing traffic spikes. The company focused on New Relic browser monitoring, New Relic log management, and New Relic alerts. New Relic dashboards were created, and engineers started fully observing what was going on in the multiple layers of the CaratLane technology platform during a release moratorium. By using New Relic as an all-in-one observability platform, CaratLane ensured uptime, performance, and reliability via proactive alerts, and managed incident orchestration and log management. The developers could resolve issues rapidly before they escalated and impacted user experience.

Moxa was asked to provide a connectivity solution for one of the world's leading cosmetics companies. Ensures Cold Milk in Your Supermarket
As of 2014, AK-Centralen has over 1,500 Danish supermarkets equipped, and utilizes 16 operators, and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. AK-Centralen needed the ability to monitor the cooling alarms from around the country, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each and every time the door to a milk cooler or a freezer does not close properly, an alarm goes off on a computer screen in a control building in southwestern Odense. This type of alarm will go off approximately 140,000 times per year, equating to roughly 400 alarms in a 24-hour period. Should an alarm go off, then there is only a limited amount of time to act before dairy products or frozen pizza must be disposed of, and this type of waste can quickly start to cost a supermarket a great deal of money.

Supermarket Energy Savings
The client had previously deployed a one-meter-per-store monitoring program. Given the manner in which energy consumption changes with external temperature, hour of the day, day of week and month of year, a single meter solution lacked the ability to detect the difference between a true problem and a changing store environment. Most importantly, a single meter solution could never identify root cause of energy consumption changes. This approach never reduced the number of truck-rolls or man-hours required to find and resolve issues.
