About The Customer
Cirtronics Corporation is a product manufacturer operating within multiple markets, including medical and health tech, military, aerospace and defense, industrial, semiconductor, clean tech, communications and emerging technologies. The organization invests in all stages of the product lifecycle—from new product introduction, material management, manufacturing, logistics, distribution, and direct fulfillment to after-sales support and reverse logistics and returns management. With extensive expertise in engineering, production, program management, quality and supply chain, Cirtronics offers customized programs to fulfill its customers’ product vision from initial design stages all the way through to end of life planning and product sun setting. Cirtronics’ customers, really their partners, leverage from the company’s core competencies and competitive strengths to improve time to market, enhance manufacturing flexibility, reduce inventory liability and remove redundant and nonvalue added processes. Today, the employee-owned company continues to invest in all areas of highly complex, expertise-oriented contract manufactured products. Headquartered in Milford, New Hampshire, Cirtronics has two additional locations; Washington, D.C. and Portland, Oregon.
The Challenge
Cirtronics Corporation, a product manufacturer operating within multiple markets, was using MAX ERP and Aegis software as a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to automate their manufacturing floor. However, they faced a challenge in streamlining the process of validating part numbers between Aegis and MAX—a process that could take most of a day when customers sent a new or revised bill of materials. The challenge was to create a seamless integration between MAX and Aegis so that information flowed quickly and smoothly between the two systems. If integration could be built, Cirtronics would be able to take full advantage of the best capabilities of each system.
The Solution
In response to the challenge, Aegis created integration between MAX and Aegis that functions as a “part import service,” to ensure that part information is synchronized between the two systems. When Cirtronics receives a new or revised bill of materials from a customer, Aegis can import the customer’s bill, automatically cross-reference MAX by customer part number and then fill in the necessary part number information to complete the bill of materials. If a part number does not already exist in MAX, an automatic prompt will notify Cirtronics that a part must be created. Using software that Cirtronics wrote, information about any newly created parts are sent to the Aegis Import Service via an XML formatted file. Information from newly created parts are synced every five minutes to ensure both MAX and Aegis have all the information needed to fulfill their respective roles in Cirtronics’ operations, without any time-consuming manual intervention. Once a Bill of Material is completed in Aegis it can then be exported and imported into MAX using the MAX Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) Module.
Operational Impact
  • The entire bill of materials and part number creation process from beginning to end now takes about ten to fifteen minutes, down from several hours before the change.
  • The productivity gains have been tremendous.
  • Cirtronics has been able to reconfigure their manufacturing floor with a better flow and cut their manufacturing time in half.
  • Cirtronics has gained a real-time view of their manufacturing performance—allowing them to reduce the response time to manufacturing issues, thus improving the quality of their products.
  • Cirtronics has been able to reduce its reliance on paper for shop floor tracking and work instructions, which has increased productivity, reduced errors and eliminated a source of waste.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Cut manufacturing time in half.
  • Reduced the time to complete a key business process from hours to a matter of minutes.
